Fulham's relegation the key to England's WC success (non-QPR) 18:31 - May 26 with 1802 viewsGetMeRangers

In 1966

Eurovision was won by Austria
Champions League was won by Real Madrid
La Liga was won by Athletico Madrid
The last year that a team won the FA cup coming from 2-0 down
Fulham were relegated
England won the World Cup

Too many coincidences?

Still not convincing me to weigh on at Ladbrokes.

I guess the difference between now and 1966 is that the England side looks weak, with very few world class players in any position, wheras in 66 they had strength in depth across the squad.

Never knowingly understood

Hmm 66 4 World Class players Banks Moore Charlton Wilson actually 5 but Greaves got injured several good pros in other positions. Now 2 Rooney Gerrard plus there was no team like Spain Brazil there with Argentina and Germany good possible other winners.Great manager now good manager would be tempted to go with the youngsters and build for 2 or 4 years time.Remember N Korea made the quarter finals and Russia the semi finals plus we were at home not in the Amazonian Jungle to kick off the World Cup

Fulham were not relegated in 1966, it was Northampton and Blackburn.

You could just as easily say that the hosts won the World Cup in 1966, which is the much more likely scenario this year.

Sorry that was shamelessly lifted from Twitter... should have known better!

I agree with the hosts being the most likely similarity to prevail
