I would be thoroughly ashamed of my club if Bloomfield Bear stood there with a big daft grin on his face during a minute's silence on Remembrance Day.

Maybe next time the mascot could remove the head-gear for the minute.

I also see your point. It looks totally inappropriate for the occasion. But I guess the mascot cannot take the head off during a match as it may confuse the children.
