I was a Bury fan for 50 years before giving up because I could no longer stomach Day and his apologists/supporters on Beardys. It was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made and the chance of me ever returning is next to zero. However, I still go on Beardys because the never-ending soap opera-cum-farce-cum tragedy is strangely addictive. Nowadays you have to be invited by a current member to read the posts let alone reply to them. The level of hypocrisy can be staggering at times. Essentially, the current situation is that there's a power struggle going on with two opposing factions each digging deeper holes to entrench themselves in. One side is populated mainly by those who supported the ex-Phoenix club and the other by the old guard plus the benefactors. The last few days have seen: a) a highly popular and hardworking volunteer relieved of his duties by the CEO with no reason/s given; he's still waiting for an answer. The CEO has since resigned. b) another volunteer being subjected to abuse and harassment extending to her work and spouse c) the resignation of Young (Chair of the Board) and de Matas (another member of the Board); it was these two and others who promulgated the pro-merger myth of "unity" should a merger go through which, of course, it did. Yep, you really couldn't make it up! Goodness knows what happens next. [Post edited 13 Nov 20:51]

What will happen next is that history will repeat itself. The current bunch of clueless clowns through inflated egos and sheer incompetence, will drag their club back to the brink, with more fall-outs, more embarrassment, more humiliation and people chaining themselves to drainpipes. They have apparently learned nothing from recent experience. Should be renamed Lemming F.C.

To be fair, the current board is making a good fist of it. There's hundreds of thousands in the bank, ground improvements and a 3G pitch pulling in revenue. The test will probably come as they climb up the pyramid. So far, things have been going well on the pitch as one would expect given many of their rivals barely have two pennies to rub together. At some stage, progress will stutter and there's likely to be a clamour to splash the cash. Things might then get interesting.

its just unsavory the way its all been handled. I had some respect for the Phoenix when they first laid out their objectives. Then came the name change by the back door and 2 stars on the shirt is just laughable and a real smack in the teeth for the thousands cheated out of hard earned money. Attempting to brush all the terrible behavior under the carpet and act like all is Rosie in the garden whilst shaking pom poms is cringe central. The new plastic pitch actually does a pretty decent job at mirroring a plastic club with zero humility. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

great post thanks for the insight my first game was 35 years ago ive not been on any Bury boards since Y3K and the official board back then, i remember Beardyman board was part of one of them two but i may be mistaken? i knew him and miss him. I think i would fall into the old guard section i never went to watch AFC at Radcliffe but had nothing against them and looked up their scores but once Bury were back at Gigg i signed up pay my subs and started going again but dont go as much now.. have to say the email updates from the club are very impressive and professional. it might be worth you going to a game just for old times sake the old girl is in good shape! trust me its very enjoyable. Why would he go for old times sake when the same mistakes and the same divisions are still being made? Some fans have principles, some don’t. As seen in your next post to this one.

And some Bury fans still wonder why the likes of Day and Dale were able to get away with what they did. One look at the attitude of the majority of the fanbase and they knew it’d be easy.

I live a couple of hundred miles away so it would cost me rather a lot. Re admission prices, they're higher at Gigg than other local teams in the same division.

due too stadium running costs , prestwich heys ground is down the road from me last season they were charging £6 , Bury a tenner its pretty good really. hers one for you my 2nd ever game at Gigg v Preston lost 2-1, big crowd full away end bouncing and 2 brothers in opposite goals - Gary and Alan Kelly. Mark Patterson was playing for them we signed him later on. Always enjoyed Tranmere at home.. again full bouncing away end always a great game players for them Eric ??? the keeper ex City, Neil Mcnab, Chris Malkin who always scored, Johnny King manager.. all this was a staple diet for us great memorys.
