My mate started the label (Daptone).
Here's where he got the Dap bit from
*gets anorak*
By dint of curious serendipity somebody on here has already mentioned Sturgill Simpson, Warwick. Click on the link to hear him backed by The Dap Kings, your pal's houseband, on as nice a slice of Country Soul as you'll hear this year.

Nice!
So's this!
At the time when the British charts were dominated by Frankie Vaughn's Give Me The Moonlight and Lita Roza's How much is that doggie in the window, down in Mississippi this was going on....

FFS!
I'm not sure if your ears really are that finely tuned or you already knew what you're talking about?!! The pianist on that cut was the legendary Mr Paul, the same Mr Paul who acted as bandleader at Haney's Big House in Ferriday, La. The man who used to sneak the eleven-year-old Jerry Lee in through a window and let him sit in. The same Mr Paul who had been Hubert Sumlin's touring sideman.

Genetically, paedophiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me. Now that is scientific fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact.

Definitely some of Sumlin's licks in there! Smokestack Lightnin' was one of the first things I learned to play.
Talking of great (and criminally underrated) guitarists, one of the greatest guitar albums has finally been put on CD by our Japanese friends - I've listened to bugger all else in the car for the last week or so. I've worn my vinyl copy out...
THE version
An object lesson in soulful blues guitar...
Too many sessions to mention but his live stuff with King Curtis and Aretha (both at Fillmore West) and the classic Donny Hathaway Live are all essential stuff.
Talking of Stuff...

Excellent stuff! I'll pick up a copy of that.
I've got a copy of Dupree's Bop'n'Blues knocking around here somewhere, mate. I'll have to see if I can dig it out and give it a spin in the meantime.

I'm right though aren't I? I love to see people getting a break in the music world but she's not very well known is she?
Hard to say, Daz. In Country/Folk circles she's causing a stir. Nashville would seem to be her likely destination and she's got what it takes to go all the way in my opinion.
I put this up for Lisa before, Daz. This is her as a schoolgirl singing at Noson Lawen. Listen to the purity in that voice! The Bluegrass crowd at The Ryman would go crazy for her, I've been to enough nights at The Ryman to know she's the real deal.
