Footballs finished - gig plans for the summer? 08:59 - May 12 with 13051 viewswestberksr

apart from the small matter of the Euros the summer is usually the time to get soaked through at festivals and fill in the boredom with a few gigs....

what have you all got lined up?

me...

Maverick Sabre - this weekend in Reading
Rudimental & Disclosures festival in Brighton - 11/12 June
Chic & Angie Stone - Fulham Palace 26th June
Love Supreme festival - 1-3rd July (Jazz FMs thing)
North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam - "nice" 8-10 July (great line up apart from Simply Red)
then have Blade Runner & Some Like It Hot at outdoor cinemas

further forward Gary Numan in September

toying with ABC - Lexicon of Love (in full with orchestra) October. Can't believe that was 34 years ago.

mixed in with a bit of Royal Ascot, Goodwood and maybe a Vintage grand Prix in Belgium

Some great gigs/festivals in there. For me;

James Taylor Quartet - Jazz Cafe week next Saturday. Should be a laugh live.

Jonathan Wilson - some place in Islington, June. Acoustic set.

Jocelyn Brown - Jazz Cafe June. Not sure if I actually needed tickets - could probably hear her outside from two blocks away

Trying to catch a Norman Jay night over the summer - missed the tickets for the thing he's doing with Sancho Panza in Brixton but will fit something in.

So the lack of football does have an upside; money to spend on something else (which my OH also wants to do).

Great that the Jazz Cafe has reopened - love the place. Let me know what it's like now please.

Went to see Carleen Anderson there last year (fabulous gig). It was the first time I'd been in 20-odd years and it was in many ways just how I remembered it in that it's a long narrow space with the stage on the long wall on the left. What it lacks in layout it makes up for in atmosphere in that it's a small venue and you really connect with the artist because you're crammed together.

The difference is that, at 51, I now end up getting a table with the Mrs on the balcony. Which is fine as everyone dances up there and it's easier to get a drink (but it costs £20 more as you have to eat their grub).

Nice one Simmo

What day you heading to?

We're going on the Wednesday mate, wanted weekend initially but the tickets went and didn't want to pay the touts... Got in on Wednesday and staying an extra night to watch the England Wales game the day after and have a little explore of Manny before we come back.

In the standing though, I have been to one stadium gig before in the seated part and I hated it, I don't really want to get in the mosh pits anymore (especially not with the mrs who doesn't do well with crowds), but I want to be able to cut loose when the mood takes me. Plus if you go to the back or the edges you usually have plenty of space and are well away from the piss :-)

STONE ROSES City of Madchester Stadium 18th June 2016

Up there on the Friday for a night in the Northern outpost and then Exec Lounge tickets for the Saturday
After Heaton and FInsbury Park we decided not to be skittles to the pi$$ bombs this time - pricey but I intend to "earn it"

I'm there for the Wednesday night gig, followed by BBQ and England v Wales the next day.

Roll the fck on.

Edit: Might see you there Simmo. What distinguishing features do you have? I'm a 13 foot tall albino, you?

Last Shadow Puppets at Alexandra Palace in July
White Denim at the Roundhouse in October (technically not the summer)

Nothing else planned but looking.
Numan would be good if he's in London?

Any recommendations?

Off to Funk the Format in Brighton (Norman Jay & Soul 2 Soul)
Going to the Worldwide festival in Sete. The last time I looked Roni Size has confirmed and also Motor City Drum Ensemble.
I am off to Belgium for 3 days a going over the border to see England V France in Lens.
I was half thinking about the Farr Festival just for the Saturday there is a Boys Own 30 year aniversary do. G Peetson is playing all with the usual suspect but I am off to my cousins 40th and besides I only do bespoke festivals in the south of France now.

LS, you need to try and see Maverick Sabre at the Jazz Cafe in June.

Just got back from seeing the fella do an acoustic show, just him and a guy on guitar, what a fukkin great show. He's got a great voice and and bags of confidence, support Espa was good too.....

Can't recommend highly enough, thinking of going again.

I went but was literally up in the gods in the gallery - and it's hard to enjoy it so much up there, but it was an almighty gig - the bit where he went on a tour of the stalls, almost a complete tour in fact, was mind boggling for a bloke of 69. At times the band sounded blistering, even from up the top, and watching some clips where the sound is better than I could hear, you can see why it's had such great reviews. Here's the walkabout - and the band cutting loose whilst he was out and about

Me and Mrs C are off to the Stevie Wonder gig in Hyde Park on July 10th where he's doing the "Songs In The Key Of Life" album in it's entirety plus a greatest hits package all on the same show. Pushed the boat out as it's just after our first annivesary and got the best tickets (an eye watering £250 quid each !)

It'll probably be the last time he tours over here so it should be worth it.

Nice one Camberley and congrats.

Songs in the key of life is in my top three albums of all time. I think it's musically the most versatile album ever. I saw Stevie a few years back, he gives great value for money and really is an accomplished pianist to boot.
Awesome musicians playing for him.

Muse's Drones Tour is supposed to be absolutely phenomenal. Jealous.

Yup, seen them in Dublin and Manchester on this tour already.....bloody stunning.

Real drones frying round the concert, and graphics like I've never seen before.
Totally recommended

So it's shaping up nicely...

Stone Roses debauchery weekend on 17th June
Then hopefully to the Euro's on the Monday

And thanks to a tip off by the king Ligger and Gigger LadbrokeR I've just procured tickets for the ubiquitous Roy Ayers at the Ealing Jazz Festival on 23rd July 2016 -- at £5.50 each with a potential monumental all dayer in the sun it was a no brainer.
Even I can't be late for this one - 11 minutes walk from my front door

Folk's get down in the sunshine....
