Being a beginner on an acoustic, I'm not getting anywhere and getting discouraged. A friend suggested I should have the action of the strings lowered as this will make it easier for me to progress. Would this help please?

Get a capo. It'll reduce a lot of pressure and you can move it around and play in different keys. It'll be easier to sound better, and they're really cheap.

Probably not on an acoustic and it would need to be professionally done too. Have you tried lighter strings?
Don't go below a .10 on an acoustic though.

Most decent acoustics are set up to play out of the box - if you have a really cheap one with a high action then consider an upgrade (try a few first though) or getting an electric and a cheap amp. You can get away with very light strings and a very low action and still sound decent.

Sound advice - except a pedalboard is the last thing a beginner needs.

Play clean - add a touch of reverb if you must and learn some basic theory.

Not for me sir.

I only bought it so I could play Parisienne Walkways... wanted that g Moore sound. Was going to get an Ibanez tube screamer pedal but for £140 got the zoom pedal board with tons of different fx for experimenting.

Personally, I find an overdriven amp sound makes playing a lot easier... especially for lead.

Not so good for the neighbours though.

Get that guitar ordered. We expect you to be able to turn out stuff like this in a couple of weeks...

Full version here. You might need a few extra weeks to get the hang of it
