I have absolutely no doubt that Trump is being influenced and to some extent at least, controlled by Moscow.

Influenced possibly. It's no great secret that he admires Putin in many ways, both of them seem in thrall to 'the great man' theory of history but only one of them begins to meet any of Carlyle's criteria.

I think it goes further than admiration.
We'll possibly find out one day. I think he's worried we will. Which is why he is so keen before that happens to irreversibly tarnish the reputations of the publications that may try.
You may be right on the great man theory as it's the sort of simplistic nonsense that would appeal to Trump.
