Potter combusting... on 13:00 - Mar 3 by icecoldjack | I also remember Brendan talking about this, the difference being was we had a back four and Leon that was well versed in playing this way long before Brendan rolled into town, Rangel,Taylor,Ash,Monk,Tate and Leon were so used to playing this style that by the time they got to the prem league it was almost telepathic in terms of passing and keep ball, Leon would know his exact pass to Rangel and where he’d be even before he received the ball ditto the rest of the back four. Potter trying to implement a passing style in the hardest league with players that Perhaps haven’t played that way Before was always going to be a tough ask, especially when things got tough, players revert to type And pass safer and slower. We could pass it far quicker at the back because we had that clear understanding that was built up over many seasons, it was still slow and at times sometimes hindered us greatly in the prem league but we were a budget Barca not the real thing. Potter in my humble opinion is a good coach but I think it’s hard to change styles of football without stacks of cash, it took us time to progress and refine it but we did it at the right times in the right Leagues with the right players, season after season slowly getting better at it until we got to the premier league where we were quite the dandy continental style passing team . |
A good point our back four and lynch midfielder had been together and playing that style in the ascenandcy form League 1 up....as you say ICY by the time we arrived in the Championship and the PL it was second nature to this unit who had been together for at least 3 seasons or more...yet we are all expecting a rookie manager with a rookie squad, with everchanging centre backs to be up to the same speed ! Yes our football has gone backwards but it has done so since before now...Potter did manage glimpses of it last season but thats all it was glimpses. Good last paragraph.....we dont have stacks of cash....what Roberto did was use Kevin Reeves to find talented players on the cheap .. players who could play the right way but had not been deemed "good enough" to play at the top tables in whatever country.....these players came in and played to a system a system which baffled other teams in the lower leagues as they werent used to seeing "footbal" and enabled us to develop our style which led to our rise.

Britton made our centre halves look good on the ball, always made himself available and would take the ball whatever the situation. Class act. Never replaced him. Easier said than done though in fairness.

Potter combusting... on 20:08 - Mar 3 with 1124 views | Zaxx | Potter fiddled about, tinkered maybe is the best description. Until he had an out and out breakaway player in Dan James at his disposal and a couple of fit old heads to run the game for him he had very little more of an idea than Cooper has now. Was the squad better last season? Probably in my opinion. Maybe he could have built on it but we'll never know, he facked off. It is what most were expecting, a bunch of youngsters and loanees this season. No difference next season bar even more experienced players leaving. Son of Keith will still no doubt be here next year. I really hope that he learns from his debut in senior football else we'll have a further year of dross ahead. Good to see some decent youngsters coming through the ranks again though. I sincerely hope that Birch can keep the books balanced for long enough. That's all.

Yeah, I can’t hate Potter. He did what he did. It could have turned to real shit last season. It didn’t.
