Furloughed Staff 17:50 - Apr 4 with 9157 views | Barrowdale | Is it just me or is it abhorrent to see Liverpool taking government (our) money to pay non playing staff wages?
Furloughed Staff on 08:07 - Apr 8 with 1981 views | todmordendale | Good to see Liverpool admit their moral error. How can it be reconciled that you can not afford to pay staff yet it is reported that they may spend a few hundred million in the window. Minister of sport has got it right. Big football is in a moral vacuum

Furloughed Staff on 19:44 - Apr 7 by Thacks_Rabbits | Does it include pension and NI Judd? Taxation wise that’s a bloody nightmare if a player is being paid well in excess of this, I would assume the fur payment would be classed as initial earnings and as such is taxed at nil and basic rate, with usual deductions, and leave the club to deal with the more complicated taxation issues. I can sort of understand Sunderland doing it tbh, loss of their gates must hurt cash flow in a club on the edge already! |
I believe it includes 80% of employment costs, to include NI contributions, minimum pension contributions and holidays. The employer has to claim the costs back through an HMRC portal that has yet to open.

Furloughed Staff on 16:01 - Apr 7 by judd | But no one will be short paid nor payments deferred, therefore they appear to be topping up all wages, whilst taking advantage of the maximum £2,500 per month they can claim, say 25 pro footballers they are claiming £62,500 per month plus NI, pension etc. for the playing staff. |
I do wonder in the unlevel playing field of League 1 of how far some clubs will have pushed this to achieve the largest use / lowest financial impact for their club. Coventy City, Doncaster Rovers and Sunderland have now pushed their entire squads on furlough. https://www.bicesteradvertiser.net/sport/18364983.sunderland-become-third-league Rightly or wrongly they are now getting a financial advantage over clubs that haven't. I suppose you cannot argue that they can do this and others choose not to but it is a big disparity in financials terms.

https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2020/april/dbupdate_1704/ Good IMO to see us taking the difficult decision to furlough all of our staff. The Government, yesterday, extended the furlough scheme to the end of June which may mean that we have seen the last of Camps, Henderson, Andrew and others in a Dale shirt. What it does mean is that our wage bill is now circa 15-20% of the usual full capacity which will aid the club as a whole in it and help aid its survival in very difficult economic times. We knew that this Summer would see a changing of the guard on the playing side and a possible reduction in the wage bill overall as the Keith HIll contracts unwound. This will put a leveller in the playing field of player wages for leagues out of the Championship.

15/20% ? our average wage is around 7k per month per player ,maximum furlough is 2.5k per month so we still need to pay the difference unless the pfa say otherwise. [Post edited 18 Apr 2020 15:19]

I'm pretty sure its optional for the "company" to top the difference up if they can/wish,its not compulsory it seems

I think it is compulsory as far as football player contracts are ,the club must honour the contracts in full unless the PFA negotiate with the players to reduce them . [Post edited 18 Apr 2020 16:56]

As I understand, you're right it's optional - but also employees can say "no" to the furloughing. For Joe Bloggs if they're on £20k per year and they can either get 80% to do nothing at home or potentially lose their job then it's generally a no brainer to say yes, even if it means they have less income (and actually often people would save quite a bit without transport). But if you're on a lot more than the cap then some wouldn't agree to the furloughing. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Correct and furlough is with agreement. We know Jim McNulty as PFA rep has been heavily involved. Agreements have been reached between the club and PFA before any players were officially furloughed. Concerns longer over the finer details, including the possibility that players will be able to leave on free transfers if their contracts are violated. But we have done this for all staff and thus the majority, I suspect, earn less than £37,500 a year this no cost to the club, assuming they are not topping up from 80% to 100%

Agreed it includes NI and minimum pension contributions, not sure on holidays though? As far as I'm aware employees will just accrue holidays and use them at the end or when they can (when I last looked there was a grey area as to whether you can ask holidays to be taken during furlough).

I believe holiday entitlement is to be extended into the next 2 years.
