As the subject of a takeover continues to take more twists and turns than a roller-coaster. I thought of (imo) interesting discussion to have. If they had enough money to do so, which ex player(s) Do you think would be best for the club if they became majority shareholder(s)?

I’d imagine Craig Dawson has a fairly hefty bank balance these days.

Craig doesn’t get as much as you would think, not all players in the Prem get £250k a week plus…

I wouldn’t mind being a quid behind him.

I reckon he’s got to be on £30k a week? £1.5m a year.
He’s had 10 seasons ish in the prem, he won’t be doing too bad.

He was on £38k a week at West Brom I read somewhere, probABLY got a pay rise to go to Watford and another at West Ham. Could easily be on 60k a week now.

Sounds a lot when you say it like that but £30k a week is around £17k after tax & NI then pension contributions out of that… most players I would imagine pay a lot into pensions because it’s not a job for life….

Not that I wouldn’t mind it as well… but big houses, nice cars, private schools… it soon goes..

Big houses grow in value so you've not really spent it rather invested it, you'd struggle to spend £17k a week every single week, some folk earn that a year putting it into perspective

Would agree to disagree in someways NB…

“As an example”….

I could buy a new house tomorrow in say Bamford as a local example for £1mill..

Yes I would have to pay a deposit & interest only mortgage, nice pool, snooker room, 6 beds, 5 bathrooms etc… or I could buy it outright.. my point?

Most cars unless you have an AM DB5 will depreciate quickly & a house is only worth what the next buyer is willing to pay for it. Not all bricks & mortar makes money in the long run when you get to the jetset salaries.

Not connected to Craig in away the above in anyway at all, just life in general.. saw on either the MEN or Mail Raheem Sterling owns a street..? Robbie Fowler & Micheal Owen as an example invested a lot of money in property a good few years ago.. no idea if good or bad investment?

I was just saying, over a certain amount, HMRC steal 40p in the £1 😢😢 at least

But you are correct, £17k is a lot to most people…

It’s the way of the world & do not agree it is right 👍

Forgetting every reason you have given to try and explain how in-rich he is… He will still be better off than any director involved with the club.

Not sure about your point bdb really, dont know where you've live but if Craig bought a house regardless of value/price (outright or mortgaged) 10 years ago I'd put a bet up with you it will be worth considerably more now.

"a house is only worth what the next buyer is willing to pay for it" very true like anything, but also dictated by the market.

Folk like Owen and Fowler wouldn't continue to buy properties at the rate they do if they all lost money that just doesn't make business sense one bit, a personal example a property I bought in 2014 has increased in value by almost 70%, no opinions thats a fact.

The point I was trying to make in all honesty before this went off at a tangent somewhat is £30k a week sounds a lot of money but that’s gross… there are many deductions to come out of it.

You can earn £1.5 mill a year but that doesn’t make you a millionaire 😀

Take your point bdb but dress it up how you like...gross,net deductions etc whatever else you throw in its a FOOKING LOT of money your still pulling in every week, every month every year.

People earning £1.5m a year can and will live as a millionaire, and good luck to them as generally these people have made the big sacrifices to reach them sort of figures.
