Anyway, much improved in the 2nd half and I said to my mate at 80 mins this looks like a 0-0 but the romantic part of my brain sees a last minute winner from Charlie 😃

QPR V WBA match thread. on 18:22 - Jan 15 by DWQPR | I didn’t think West Brom. We’re any better than us in the first half at all. I thought it was a very cagey first half with both teams more or less sparing with each other but neither taking the initiative. Second half we came out the blocks quickly and really set the tone for much of the second half. At half time I said to my brother than we had nothing to beat here, thought they were bang average and certainly weren’t the high pressing, high tempo team that we seemed to stand in front of the headlights of at they place. They had no creativity at all for the whole match and most of their crosses in the first half only worried the ball boys. Clive’s pre-season prediction for them is certainly starting to look reasonable. They are going to have to rely an awful lot on Dike to remain in the play offs. It was great to see Willock cause so much trouble today without his partner in mayhem. And it was good to see a good performance without Chair being in the side. Marshall in goal looked like he had played in the side all season with his distribution and both Albert and Wallace were more than solid at the back and dangerous going forward. The team had a nice balance today overall and deserved the win. |
Exactly how I saw it. They were no better than us first half even if they had more of the ball they never looked like they could do any damage. We beasted the beginning of the second half and we were unlucky not to be ahead. Our whole defence was immense today. Dunne and Barbet top of their game. The only surprise about the winner was it took as long as it did to arrive. Great atmosphere all second half. The crowd really responded to us upping the tempo. I'd love to see a heat map of Fields positioning first to second half. I think he played more central 2nd and gave us the base to be more positive going forward

QPR V WBA match thread. on 18:03 - Jan 15 by MrSheen | On West Brom, they were nothing like the long ball side advertised for the first 65 minutes. They were the better team by far in the first half, we hardly had the ball at all. We perked up enormously after half time, suddenly Stef Jo’s flicks were all to our players, and the first 20 minutes of the half were the most exciting I’ve seen all season, both teams looking they would score any minute. What happened then? Albion put Dike on, his first two touches caused absolute havoc, then they became the man with the hammer for whom everything is a nail. To be fair, they forced us back and really had us defending our box, but until one last press got us the possession for the goal. Great commitment and effort to get the win. Barbet’s courage and determination not to be beaten deserves recognition today, but Dunne has to be the jewel in the crown of recruitment, would slot right into any Premiership team right now. |
Agreed. Enjoyed both half’s in their different way, quite how the second half opened up like it did was remarkable. Field was superb, as were the back three. Dunne is incredibly clever how he handles opposing centre forwards.

QPR V WBA match thread. on 19:12 - Jan 15 with 1897 views | BrianMcCarthy | Bosh, Sheen and others are correct, I think, that Brom bringing on Dike played to our strengths. Why would you go to a target man against three centre-backs who - whisper it quietly - are not just ball-players but now also excellent at defending? And then why would you throw one of them into the hoardings unless you knew you could finish the job? I loved how Barbet got ultra-aggressive after the injury and completely bossed Dike. Question asked. Answer given.

Fair to say, Dike is a hell of an athlete, a real powerhouse. Great job to get on top of him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
QPR V WBA match thread. on 19:16 - Jan 15 with 1851 views | slmrstid | A pulsating match, real end to end and we battled well for the win, a great roar when we scored. I was terrified when Barbet went into that hoarding, being over in Ellerslie we could hear the thud, I was genuinely frightened of a fractured skull/even life threatening. Might sound over dramatic, might be worse because we were further away and couldnt see anything as he was immediately surrounded, but given how quiet the stadium was I think a lot of fans were worried. A really, really scary incident. I was amazed he was allowed back on given how big everywhere is on head injuries now in sport. Bravery beyond belief, and he owned Dike after that. I think the incident actually shook Dike as he was a shadow of the player that came on after that.

Can't remember Marshall making a save. Something special is happening at this club and it's great to be a part of it

Bearing in mind that idiot ref didnt even give a free kick, I wonder if there will be a retrospective ban?

It was awful, you could hear the thud in the Upper Loft and the way the bench immediately leapt up to go to his aid really did have me fearing the worst. Next thing I could see of him was taking his shorts off and trotting back into the field!

According to Warbs the fourth official was right there, and didn't see it as a foul. There also wasn't much of a response from our players, or our bench. It was certainly a nasty incident, and a very scary one but not necessarily intentional.
QPR V WBA match thread. on 21:59 - Jan 15 with 1144 views | Wegerles_Stairs | Wonderful atmosphere today and a tense match which in reality could have gone either way. Nice to see us come out after the interval on it as we are often slow starters in teh second half. Thought we got properly stuck in too which made a real difference. You've got to like the look of our upcoming fixtures too - I know this is the Championship and anyone can beat anyone - but we've got a real chance here.

Looks like a foul to me - deliberate shoulder to the middle of the back. No intention to get the ball. Not sure what Dikes reaction was about??

Was in SAR, so couldn't see the incident. That's a red card all day, night, week, month, year, decade and century long. Dike knew what he was doing there. Ref abysmal all game. I'm beginning to feel we'd be better off without officials. That fat b@stard waddled around all afternoon without any idea of what was going on.

Massive adrenaline surge? First appearance for his new club, doing his best for the manager that gave him his big break? I think it was a foul, he was late. But at any other ground in the division Barbet's head would have hit the turf, not the advertising hoardings.

Personally. I think it's a bit like saying if the pitch was 5 yards longer, the ball may not have gone out for a goal kick or a corner. It's foul play, it's dangerous, it's a red.

The 4th official as bad as the ref then. Completely unnecessary and dangerous. Def a foul and a yellow. Dike is a pr!ck

Ignoring the fact that Barbet hit the advertising boards, it's still a foul and at least a yellow for me - it's a cheap shot into the back of another player.
