Those who were there will never forget the emotion of that afternoon.

I remember it well hence my username. No tippy tappy football in those days or passing it around the backs trying to commit football suicide. Good old fashion football with good old fashion wingers. When footballers were footballers and not the whimps they are today.
Rant over !

I had this in mind when the news came through yesterday

Joyful though it was, there was just the slightest tinge of regret it didn't happen one day later. That'd have made it 55 years, to the hour

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

I was there and my memory is of Reg Jenkins turning the Southend left back inside out time after time in the second half. I was stood near the corner flag and it was hilarious. I swear that fullback went in at full time wearing his kit inside out and back to front.

One of the best afternoons of my life standing in a packed Sandy Lane with my brother.

Reg was outstanding but what an all round team that went on to do well in the old Division 3 before breaking up.

Hopefully we will recruit a few of the same type this summer!

I think that officially there were over 9000 there with a minimal away support.
This backing up from the game at the Shay less than 48 hours earlier when 17000 were packed into the ground.

My first season supporting the Dale; had an innocent 11 year old kid thinking it would always be like this. Home to Orient in August shattered that illusionâ€¦đŸ˜†

To be fair we followed that up by losing only 2 of the next 17 games in which we scored 42 goals and arrived at thetop of division 3. Then Vinny Leech got injured ( an injury that ended his career) and that was that.
