TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Altrincham on 11:22 - Dec 28 with 4484 views
It’s worth noting the weather forecast on the Met Office site is currently predicting light rain all day Tuesday and then on the day of the game too.
In the co-chair’s Christmas message it was mentioned about taking action to ensure the game goes ahead. However, with little more detailed information about what we’re actually doing, would it not be an idea for the club to provide this to give people some confidence in buying tickets?
We’ve then got the important Trophy game against Stockton which gives us the chance to progress, getting tickets sold for this will be easier if there’s more certainty about what we are doing with the pitch.
The article also mentions “planning to Dryject the pitch on the 6th January”, that’s after this week’s games though and the day before the pointless National League Cup game against Wolves - can this match not be moved somewhere else to protect the pitch especially if work has taken place the day previously?
Think altrincham is always a tough fixture. Not been as good since losing there main man Chris conn Clarke. Real tough test but shouod get the job done. Up the dale

If the club have taken measures to protect the pitch, then they should make that information available. As you say, that will provide confidence to both home and away fans to purchase tickets and decide to spend NewYears Day, a day when folk could choose to do many other things, at the COA.
The problem is that with the current weather forecast and the warnings for both wind and snow just issued by the Met Office, the likelihood is that this match will not be on unless measures have been taken by the time the first rain falls on Tuesday.
If 6mm of rain scuppered the Boston match, then the predicted precipitation really will give the club a New Years Day hangover. Another match with decent ticket sales/bar takings potentially off.

If the club/Trust have time, I’m sure they’ll endeavour to provide some proper detailed information to supporters about the action being taken over the next week.
The same supporters who are debating whether to buy tickets for games which are looking doubtful if the forecast is right.
They could even find out about ensuring the Sandy is open next Saturday at the same time Two birds, one stone and all that.

The club surely have to make the time to push out some sort of positive communication if they wish to promote the confidence that sells tickets and makes up the minds of the undecided.
SG said in his positive Christmas statement that action would be taken to ensure that this week's games go ahead. Given the issues with pitch drainage, I presume that means rain covers will be down Tuesday morning onwards. If that's the case then letting fans know in advance can only be a good thing as it could be the only solution to ensure the game goes ahead and gets more bums on seats.
Fingers crossed they get this game on because I think by Saturday the pitch could well be frozen.

If the weather turns out to be as bad as forecast on Wednesday it’s hard to see the game going ahead unfortunately. If rain covers are on these will need to be removed Wednesday morning exposing the pitch to the predicted heavy rain. Given the vast amount of cash spent on the pitch over the years maybe it would have been better to spend it on a retractable roof over the crown oil!

The latest forecast suggests that the main band of rain clears by around 9am tomorrow. That suggests around 20 hours of fairly persistent and at times heavy rain. It'll probably amount to 20 to 25mm of rain, so fairly wet even for these parts.
If the club have bought, hired or borrowed rain covers then they'd have 6 hours to clear the covers and work on the pitch. Rain covers would probably ensure the match goes ahead. No covers and there's a very small chance it'll be on as long as the ground staff can clear enough standing water to pass any pitch inspection.
I find it quite odd and I've no idea why it's so secretive, but given the publicised pitch problems, there will be many fans who don't want to risk buying tickets or travelling without some sort of confidence from the club. Posting the bog standard matchday social media updates just doesn't do that. A bit of honesty goes a long way.

The rain has started. We are no further on a week later in finding out what has/is being done to get tomorrow’s game on or what the current state of the pitch is.
All involved who know they could and should have done more for the supporters of this football club should be quite embarrassed at their lack of action.
But you can bet they’ll have excuses and some won’t even care.

Rain isn’t looking great… let’s hope it’s not another one called off… tiring .
I'm sure the Hartlepool pitch will be fine bud. You'll get your game on.
Fair play to the Rochdale ground staff to try and get the game in using the covers. Hopefully the uncovered strip down the centre of the pitch is OK with today's rain. Fair play too to the club for posting the update. As with the Oldham match, the updates were a little late. We'll never know if it is the case, but it shouldn't take comments on an online forum or social media to prompt the club to put this news out.

Good update.
Not hard is it?
"Not hard is it" very subtle 442, would there have been a "pitch update" posted upon the Forum had supporters not have been critical of the Clubs lack of communications upon the subject, people can make up their own minds, personally, maybe I'm being unfair but I'm not so sure! Historically communications from Club to supporters has been pretty poor to say the least and it doesn't seem to be improving despite longstanding, ongoing requests from supporters for improved lines of communication, Dale Bars do it excellently, it's called basic marketing stratergy however, communications from Club in general to supporters regarding issues such as the match being played or postponed is a different matter, some supporters travel hundreds of miles to attend Dale home games spending small fortunes on fuel, overnight accommodation, food, drink, match fees etc only to be disappointed, ideally they would prefer clear, early and concise communications from the Club something along the lines "the pitch is as muddy as a quagmire and will most likely be called off" (they will never say that I know it's just an example) in good time to enable those travelling supporters to cancel/postpone their plans for obvious reasons, the Club Marketing Team may well interpreted this same/similar scenario much differently, make the postponement announcement as late in the day as possible with the slightest chance the game might be played, in some cases match day tickets may have already been purchased all the better for the Marketeers , it works well with passing trade, but very a short sighted stratergy when we are talking about life long supporters who will always return although possibly less often or be reluctant/ refuse to risk wasting their hard earned cash and valuable time in the future, particularly during the winter months, has the time come that the Club might consider promoting/improving relationships with all supporters, particularly those travelling long distances through honest, stright forward and early lines of communications and a tad more thought and understanding for supporters that is the least that Dale supporters should expect !

Fine comment
It's not unlikely that the update occurred due to the conversations going after yesterdays AGM. I've been hinting at this since i couldn't get anywhere near (due to the enclosed space the meeting took place in) but knowing those involved in conversation with the directors - and the fact they were looking out at the pitch - i'd be surprised if the matter of communication wasn't raised
Not sure if the penny has therefore dropped (it's been thrown into a void many, many times) but if the ethos of a Community Club is to be realised, it's absolutely essential that the minimum that happens is the kind of update posted today
The clue is in the word "community" - which doesn't exist without communication that all are comfortable with
