Cod Army to be battered by Superlative Super U's at Fortress JCS on 09:34 - Mar 14 with 1381 views | RSCOSWORTH | I'm expecting the same starting XI but with Iandolo in midfield instead of Hunt, as it was on Tuesday night. According to what I've read Iandolo's yellow cards at Swindon DO NOT count in terms of yellow card accumulation so he sits on nine yellow cards going into Saturday's game. It's game 37 so pretty much the last chance for him to be suspended for accumulation of yellow cards. Fingers crossed he stays out of the referee's book as we can't afford to lose him for two games at this stage of the season.

That season we had Iwelumo 19 goals, Danns 16 goals, Halford 8 goals, Garcia 8 goals. We also had Davidson, Watson, Brown, Chilvers, Yeats. All good enough to play in the championship. In my opinion the team was far superior to the players we have been able to attract recently and of course it needed to be to reach the Championship. Parky did an amazing job, but I feel that if DC/NC can get us promoted it would way exceed Parkys achievement. With two or three exceptions, we have a squad of L2 players, who DC has playing better as a team than the sum of their individual abilities. Then consider the state of the club when DC/NC arrived, compared to the relatively stable club that Parky joined. Probably the most relevant point is that the arrival of DC/NC has coincided with our main man abandoning his crackpot philosophy of bringing players and coaches through the academy all playing the 'Colchester way'. Was he the little shite we had on loan from the binners who was too good to play for the U's? Threw a proper tantrum when he was subbed at Layer Road and stormed off down the tunnel in a huff, only to be hauled back to sit on the bench.

TOOT, thank you for pointing out my error. I have indeed missed Greg Halford. I didn't copy him in. Now included. As I said comparisons are onerous but we will all have our own views on who is superior. DC will have achieved the most amazing promotion if he can lead us to League One this season. At present the answer is; we are well on course. Up the U's [Post edited 14 Mar 10:32]

Halford is missing and don't forget the part that Cureton played, albeit as a loan signing, but he was the catalyst for our season turning around. I agree that the 2005/06 team was far superior in pretty much every position. I think a few of this year's team would make the squad with maybe Iandolo and Edwards pushing for a starting spot. Also football was different back then to how it is now. I think our best team that season was: Gerken Halford Brown Chilvers Duguid Garcia Watson Danns Iwelumo Cureton Yeates I forget that we went into that final game against Yeovil with no Brown, no Yeates, no Garcia and no Cureton. I think the promotion season was Parkinson's third full season in charge and we'd finished 15th, 12th, 11th and 15th in the previous four. Cowley has been in charge for just over a season and our last four season's have seen us finish 20th, 15th, 20th and 22nd. From where we were 12 months ago it's quite some turnaround. And we've sold four players in that time plus two of our better players from last season decided to leave.

That would be him. He was a bit hit and miss for us but did do some good stuff at times. Went on to have a pretty decent career, mainly for Bradford.

What I do find surprising is we have lost the least number of games in the division. The PV Manager said we play the %'s so we'll and stats do seem to show this as although we have drawn a lot of games you could argue any other side would have lost a gd number of these.

Of course, Duguid also went on to sign for Championship side for Argyle. I clearly remember the depleted team struggling that day and our nerves taking a right battering. In the week running up to our glorious day out in Somerset, in an inebriated state, together with a couple of fellow barsiders, we hatched a cunning plan involving large quantities or blue and white powder paint. The sort we had at primary school, that you fed to the class guinea pig to see if it changed colour (don’t try that at home kids). Wessex, if you are about, it’s best you stop reading now. The plan was to rock up at Stonehenge at about 4am, in my mates Transit Custom. With the aid of decorating rollers on long poles, we intended to paint alternate stones of the monument in blue and white. Obviously various logistical problems started to appear as we sobered up, for example, unlike today, in those days you could still be sent to prison. Hence the plan was shelved. The sight greeting the faithful as they came over the brow of the hill would have been something else and let’s face it, as a national monument it’s pretty drab and could do with a bit of a facelift. I’m surprised we’ve never knocked it down, because in all honesty it’s a bit of an embarrassment to British construction. Where was the value engineering? It’s so over designed, the money wasted on the oversized structure could have gone towards a retractable roof. Why did they build it so close to the A303? Other pagans around the world made do with far more modest constructions and it never did them any harm (apart from the ones that were sacrificed). Yet again Britain lagging behind the rest of the world, still poncing around in the Neolithic age while our cousins over in Lascaux had already lived through the Dulux age. I appear to have digressed again…. Whatever happens this season, the transformation in a matter of weeks, of a club on life support to one that is fighting fit is legendry. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

LOL - Just Stop Oil achieved something similar with their orange powder spray. Just to nerd out for a brief moment, there are some international significant lichen colonies on the stones, who really wouldn't have taken kindly to joining the blue and white army (i.e. by dying). Btw - whilst working in Windsor back in the 80s I genuinely overhead some elderly American tourists comment that the castle was wonderful, but why did they build it under the Heathrow flight path

That's a really good point about Iandolo. Fingers crossed for no card tomorrow. It would be disastrous to lose him for the following two games.

I'd almost be tempted to bench Iandolo for this game - yes he's a vital part of the team, but I'd rather he sat this one out than risk losing him for two more games, particularly with the trip to Bradford next Saturday.

Wessex very good point about Iandolo. With 10 vital games to come, although we have a squad it's all about playing our best team. Bishop and McDonnell are already sidelined and we might also be without Tovide today. All we can do is keep on winning football matches and see where we finish up. Fleetwood are in good form too so another big match today. Three more points and we could be top seven tonight. Up the U's

bwildered I will consider that before the Bradford game. From memory I think Steve Wignall went unbeaten for 17 games. I suppose the point is we are all admiring the job that the Cowleys have done but nothing has been achieved yet. 10 more games will ultimately determine the U's season but I think something very special is being achieved in North Essex. It is both exciting and challenging in equal measure. The team spirit is not in doubt and if you consider the brilliance of Tovide's goal and that free kick from Taylor on Tuesday night then they demonstrate the quality within the team Up the U's

Tough game, Fleetwood are better than their league position would suggest, but we can do this. Hope there’s plenty of noise from the 12th man/woman.
