In terms of "tired minds", it's basic psychology that being energised to push forwards leads to more adrenalin flowing (i.e. the right amount) and losing that impetus results in tiredness

You can be as knackered, physically and mentally, as you want after the final whistle - and then focus on recovery with a smile on your face

Instead, the players will have left the pitch with things going on in their heads that won't have aided recovery

Over the course of the season, these things add up and the person who can do most to turn that around instead concentrates on negatives

These, too, are the reasons i'm not a fan of Jim McNulty

Get where you’re coming from and accept the comment about the right amount of adrenaline, because that in itself can lead to bad decisions/actions.
Regardless of your occupation tiredness does impact the speed and quality of decisions. That’s why when I have been hospitalised I always hoped the junior doctor attending me was at the start rather than the end of their shift.

Good point about the hospital situation

I'd suggest the better time to be attended would be the middle of the shift, when the doctor is fully engaged having spent the early part "waking up" (metaphorically, if not actually!)

So what happens when the players get to the dressing room at half time? They're instructed to ease off, which is precisely the wrong message as any psychologist would confirm, and more importantly, as our results (itemised in this thread) amply demonstrate

Bloody hell, what a stat.

Wonder if it’s some sort of record…

Closest I can find is drawing 6 of the first 7 away games in the 68-69 promotion season. The other game was a 2-0 loss at champions to be Doncaster.

In post match interview Big Jim mentioned that he hoped Jay Bird would be in a better position for Sat alongside Hogan and Barlow.

Good to hear.

You could have a thread on its own about what the line up on Saturday might be. Would imagine you could get twenty different variations and still not hit on Jim’s starting eleven.

BJ is going to have to make some crucial decisions should the players mentioned be available.
EEL or Hogan as defensive pivot for example.
Getting these decisions right could be the difference between success or defeat.

For consecutive away games it is.

When we drew at Maidenhead, it equalled five consecutive away draws from Sep-Nov 1923.

In terms of H&A, the record is six consecutive draws in early 1968/69, as mentioned by pioneer.

At home, the record is five draws from Mar-Aug 1974 and from Apr-Aug 2024, but they crossed two different seasons.

After those draws the board backed the manager by buying a centre forward, firstly Terry Melling and then, in the February Tony Buck.
Problem identified and solved with promotion the result.
