Today it was silly to continue to attempt it because of the aforementioned issues with the pitch slowing it all down. |
To be honest i don't think we are good enough to play through the better teams at home. When they put a high press on us we invariably make a mistake and we are punished. The Southend goal came as a result of them pressing us high and our keeper being caught out with his clearance. The better teams are clinical and that's what happened a few seconds later it's in our net.

Have always thought the risks often outweigh the rewards myself, however it’s how they want to play and they’ll argue it works as the results are proving it. We’ve always looked better when we mix it up, but that’s just my opinion. Don’t agree with some of what McNulty said, that game wasn’t anything like the Solihull or Utd u21s games. The pitch was unplayable from around the hour mark. If we hadn’t taken the lead, nobody would even be discussing the abandonment. Not sure why there was doubt about what happens next either, of course the result won’t stand! Nor should it.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 19:21 - Dec 6 with 1280 views | EllDale | To my mind today was very similar to the game against Halifax earlier in the season. Overpowered to an extent in the first half and deservedly behind at the break only to become more gung-ho and direct in the second half. If the keeper hadn’t made a good save and Gordon later cleared off the line in the first 45 then it might have been Dale asking for an abandonment. | | | |

Yes, it's not really a discussion what happens next, of course it's a replay. That first half performance and how we set up and try to execute the plan is one that we saw regularly last season...ponderous passing from the back, progression to the halfway line, pass it back to EEL and then to Beckwith and back and forth. Then expect EEL to play a perfectly weighted pass through the middle or out to the wing...on a saturated pitch today. In the meantime Southend are sitting back in their shape and evrrything is very predictable. It's too easy to play against. The moment we inject pace and intensity into our play we are transformed, evrrybody in the ground knows that's when we look at our best but unfortunately when it comes to these crunch games at home 'caution' seems to be the way we play and invariably we end up chasing the game. The condition of the pitch contributed to both our goals today and disguised what was a poor performance.

Next time we see Spotland it will be lush, green and perfect to play on. Hopefully we'll still be top of the league! We owe Accy hugely for this massive favour, let's support the club financially and respectfully for the two games that they host us.

Well said, that pitch has been a nightmare and even right at the very end it came back to bite us.

It’s the same as we have played all season most recently last week against Eastleigh, we’ve never changed away from knocking it across the back but as you say, it was obvious it wasn’t working on that pitch. The players have to take more responsibility to recognise when it’s not possible on surfaces like today, because having to play that slowly nullifies how effective it’s been so far. The bench should be screaming at them to stop too. To their credit, it did get better towards the end of the half and definitely after the break. I don’t think we set up cautiously, it was more a case of poor selection. Expecting Galvin to play so high and wide wasn’t working and it relied on Allarakhia to do all the work down that side. Same as when we played Berkoe in that role, doesn’t offer enough in the final third. That said, with Beckwith’s injury we might now see Galvin as LCB. Pritchard’s fitness may prove crucial these next couple of months.

I hope that when he referred to the club ignoring the fact that the pitch needed sorting that he was referring to previous administrations rather the current owners.

Like what happened to bury. Paid the £12million you owe back yet? Little pub team follower in a village league. You know it. You've got the attention you so desperately crave. Happy to oblige. Merry Xmas, nob.
