Toon Away 14:05 - Nov 13 with 1681 viewsFFE

Just been roped into this.

However, isn't the away section up in the gods? In other words, i'm a bit of a 'puddle jumper' when it comes to heights.

It's like watching someone play FIFA on a Play Station. In the next room.

And last time I went I'm sure both teams were wearing the same coloured shirts.

Worse than the top tier at the 02

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

I think we discussed this before...but one thing that has really messed up the atmosphere in a lot of football grounds is not letting the away fans have the area directly behind the goal.

Great night out, fecking terrible away end.

Went to the night game there a few seasons back when we wore navy blue.

What with the hight, under floodlights and full of alcohol, I couldn't make out a flipping thing!

That's the one I was thinking of I think - did Ben Watson score? I think it ended up 1-1 anyway, although I missed their goal due to spending the second half at her majesty's pleasure...

That was the best we had played for a long time - after the game we were talking to some Geordies in the pub who were saying we were the best side they had played so far that season. Seems a long time ago in every sense..

FFE

It is said to be nearly 1/2 a mile from the back of level 7 to the centre circle.

Some fans love it as they say you can see patterns of play developing and all that nonsense, in truth if they didn't have numbers you be hard pushed to see who is who.

Its never too bad a queue for beer and food at half time though.

Ill be there but living only 13 miles away this is my home fixture.

Better than the back of Old Trafford, to be fair. At least you can see the most of the other stands.

Go for the neet oot and not the view. In fact just don't even buy a ticket. We won't win and you'll be the only happy one that night with £40 extra in yez troos.

And for those brave enough to be going to Sunderland as well, they now house the away fans high in the sky behind the goal at the far end, as opposed to our previous position there.

Wrap up warm kids.

I noticed that when watching their weekend highlights.

1/2 mile to the centre circle Bacon? i know the view's bad but not quite that bad! 1/4 mile to the goal at the Gallogate end is correct i think.

For the pre-match pissup there's a big Whetherspoons right opposite the station. Was well cheap and full of rrrs for that midweek game mentioned above.

Man Utd have been trialling moving fans up into the heavens of the SAF stand opposite the dugouts although I understand that will start permanently from next season.

The change means away fans traversing parallel staircases to home fans with mesh separating them. In more enjoyable news, you can race the home fans for the London trains.
