Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' 11:08 - Oct 3 with 8664 viewsJonDoeman

Joey Barton has claimed that he could have "caused problems" for Queens Park Rangers in a bid to push through a permanent move to Marseille.

The former Newcastle United midfielder has been open about his desire to return to the Ligue 1 outfit following a loan stint last season.

Despite wanting a permanent transfer, QPR demanded a fee for the midfielder, but Marseille were understood to have failed to meet their valuation.

"I am 31, I am not young, I have a certain salary and to pay a fee for an old guy like me, that is asking a lot," Barton told L'Equipe.

"I could have caused problems here at the club so they would let me go. I even think that would have worked, but I am not that kind of guy. I have never done that at a club in my career."

Barton has been praised for his performances in the Championship this season since returning to Loftus Road.

Can you not cut the man some slack, and give him him a chance?
All he's guilty of this season, is helping QPR win football matches.

No I'm afraid I can't.
After all he's 'done' for the Club, especially doing nothing but badmouth QPR over the last year while WE were paying him to sun his arse on the riviera, he should have been chucked out. It's to his shame that no-one wanted to take him in the summer, considering how amazing he still thinks he is.

If he were to continue to play football, and play it well (at the moment he's only above average for the Championship - not amazing), without fúcking everything up for a whole season or 2, then I might thaw a bit.
The disrespect he showed the Club wasn't a one-off, it was a systematic thing over a whole year abroad. A one-off thing could be written off as a mistake, but someone doing the same thing over the course of a whole year shows a conscious decision to be a cúnt.
In short - in no way did he deserve his 'homecoming saviour' reception before the Wednesday game any more than Boswanka would have

QPR - "shit but local"

Barton has been disrespecting people throughout his career. When he's in the mood to do well he normally excels (i.e. this season) but if he thought there was a better option round the corner, I don't believe for a second he would have second thoughts about causing trouble if he thought it would help. He thought QPR was the better option than Marseilles. Nothing more than that.

Got a feeling he will push for a move in Jan.

He may well. However, if we're still top he may see us as his best chance of pl football. Can't honestly see any decent pl club coming in for him, but who knows.

Another solid team performance. Charlie's on fire. Some lovely football at times. A pleasure to be a part of. Onwards and upwards... #QPR

The best thing to do with Barton's comments is to ignore them or, even better, not read them in the first place. The guy thinks he's a genius but is a (hopefully ex?) thug who's as thick as two short planks and just happens to be famous; he makes use of twitter to tell the world about how great he is in his own mind.

He also happens to be playing great football for us. Best just to enjoy watching him do what he became known for and ignore whatever he says. You won't miss much.

I celebrated. What do you think?
I'm a QPR fan, not a Barton fan.
So I celebrated as always when the goal went in and applauded him. I didn't join in with the One Joey Barton w@nkathon after it though

I thought you'd have sat there and grumbled to whoever would listen that he's a **** and shouldn't be playing for QPR and you'll never cheer anything he does

Zico, I applaud your principle in this matter, I would not really care if Barton left the club tomorrow, I stopped a long time ago putting players on pedestals, especially those whose indescretions both off and on the pitch bring shame to the sport I have partcipated in and supported for many decades.

Professional footballers lead a priviledged lifestyle, with it go certain responsibilities whether they like it or not, in todays media led society even more so, not easy living your life in a 'gold fish bowl' but the rewards available are astronomical and for a relativily short period of their life they are expected to act in a manner that befits the status bestowed upon them.

Some will find it harder than others and will fall of the rails, people will forgive certain indescreations and even criminal acts, in football it seems that no matter how unprofessionly a player decides to act, what criminal acts are commited off the pitch they are forgiven as long as they can have an impact on the pitch.

The shame lies with the supporters for allowing this to happen, Barton may not have commited murder but has acted in a totaly unprofessional manner on more than one occasion with our club, as far as I am concerned I would prefer that men like Barton were not employed by our club, but then maybe the standards I live my life by are much more different to a lot of others.

I don't applaud the principle. Its moronic. There are important things in life to take a stand on. Wanna take a principled stand become a vegetarian, ride your bike instead of driving, give up smoking, or always give money to a beggar. Those are things worth taking a stand on. I'm not going to any games while Barton's around -- get a life! Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!Really. Football is a game and we watch it for fun. I think that some people on here seem to have forgotten that this is meant to be fun. We are winning. That is fun. It isn't a matter of principle. Its a bloody game.

Dylan.
As I said, it's a matter of opinion.
Surprised that my opinion should merit such a response from you.
My opinion is that it was a shameful day for us when we signed him.
How does it affect you in the slightest whether I go to games or not?

'Get a life.'
I could argue that I have more of one these days, by not arranging it around our fixture list.
You say 'it isn't a matter of principle.'
I agree.......It's just my opinion, that's all.

Of course, I could be moronic enough to have a rant at someone who has a different opinion to me, but why bother.
After all, if someone chooses to either attend or not attend games, how does that have any affect on me.

P.S.
The only thing I find worth having a rant about these days are Bike riding, Vegetarian Smokers, who give money to Beggars.
For they are nothing more than Agents of the Devil.
