Monday morning for Wednesday. 11:49 - Feb 14 with 910 viewskirbys

There has been enough said about some of the Sheffield Wednesday fans reactions to defeat by mighty Dale last Saturday. So lets turn the table and try to imagine how things would look for those same fans this morning having had a few hours to digest last Saturday.

The performance in football terms by Wednesday was relegation stuff. Caught in possession time after time, coming out second best in 50/50 challenges, misplaced passing, snatched attempts at goal, it was poor stuff.

A new manager in for his first match in charge. Megson mania hit the touch line. Not since Mr Buckley prowled the Dale turf have we seen manic arm waving, shouting, cursing - I saw no encouragement, no plan, no authority, just a guy who must be wondering how on earth is he going to make something from this side? In stark contrast, our Hillcroft Duo looked on with incredultity at his display -
Megson a sad sight in his Stepto coat.

At half time you could guarantee that Megson would revert to Bolton entertainment tactics. He did not disappoint us.
Arial bombardment denied Dale the right to play football with feet. They played ugly - ugly tactics, ugly pushing and shoving throughout, ugly winning of free kicks through deception roared on by a booing minority ugly support.

What a tribute to Dale, who though denied the right to entertain as they did in the first half, battled to a man to defend the right to deny what would have been a travesty of justice had Wednesday taken anything other than advertising hordings and a piece of groundsheet from this game.

The fact that Wednesday took so many fans to witness such a display was also surprising. The legacy of some past days in higher divisions has endured beyond its sell by date. They do not deserve either the drunken bums who could not face reality, or the majority true fans of the game who continue to turn up to witness such a poor side.

No doubt about it, things look a lot better on this side of the hill this morning!
