It was the Scottish PFA Awards last night. Not of much interest to my fellow Daleys, save for a few notes. First Division player of the Year was Lyle Taylor (how Stevie May didn't win, I'll never know). Taylor has had a good season with Falkirk, but we know him better from his time at Bournemouth, where he did zip, nada, sweet FA. And that goes for Bill Mackay too. Hardly shone at Northampton, but has scored 27 goals for Inverness this season. Unreal that he wasn't even in the reckoning for an award last night. I know the standard reaction to these feats is, “well Scottish football is garbage, so that's why players do better”, but I refuse to believe that, having watched more than my fair share of games up here. I think a big part of it is confidence. I believe some players come up here from England with an almost arrogant belief that they are better than their peers and, in a strange way, it actually does make them play better. It doesn't work for al of them, though. Rory McArdle, take note. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]
