To the Dubliners / Pogues classic 'The Irish Rover'!!!
In the year we were formed .....nineteen hundred and seven From the Cobh of Cork we did set sail We were bound far away with a cargo of men For the fine town hall of Rochdale
Twas a very fine craft she was rigged for -and -aft And oh how the fans did adore her We had twenty seven staff and withstood several blasts And we called it the Irish takeover
There was awl Henderson With the heart of ten men When the players lined up for his kick He was tootin' with skill for each sparkling quadrille The goalkeeper he made look like a d£&k
With his sparse witty talk ..... he was cock of the walk As he rolled defenders under and over They all knew at a glance when he took up his stance He was skipper of the Irish takeover
There was O'Connell and Murphy from the banks of the Lee There was McLaughlin, Keohane and Done And a chap called McNulty .....from Runcorn was he And a chap from Blackburn called Rathbone
There was Aaron Morley who was born in Bury And Ryan Delaney he came over There was Dooley from Eire who was strong as a bear A player of the Irish takeover!!!
