| world cup draw 19:30 - Dec 5 with 813 views | pioneer | Talk about watering down the product……..the group stage looks like a glorified qualifying competition. Yes Ill be watching…because its like a drug, drawn to it even though you know its not any good. So few games that scream out….”that should be a cracker” Still the man who murders folks without trial got the peace award he demanded from FIFA. Spare a thought for scotland……how many times have they faced brazil on their rare appearances at the finals? | | | | |

Panama aren't unknown - we thumped them 6-1 in Quatar and Ghana haven't even qualified for the upcoming Afcon. Croatia aren't the team they were either. Should be fairly straightforward. Last 16 however we could be playing Mexico in Mexico City.

It’s a good question. I always used to answer Dale, hands down, but I’m not too sure anymore. As we have tasted promotion now but haven’t the World Cup, in my lifetime, I think I’m slightly favouring winning the World Cup.

When England won in '66, the benefits that flowed through the game reached all levels, with increased enthusiasm and higher gates if Dale aren't back in the football league by the time the WC kicks off, winning it could help with Project 5000 and then no reason for Dale not to subsequently be promoted The entire focus should remain on Dale being back in the EFL by next summer

Average gates increased the season after the World Cup win in Div 1 & 2, but dropped in the bottom two divisions. Dale’s went from just under 3000 in 65/66 to 2,442 in 66/67.

Tbf, Dale's average gates would also be a reflection of our league position, from finishing 6th at the end of 64/65 to 22nd, 21st and 19th in subsequent years prior to our promotion season My point was regarding an overall rise in attendances due to increased enthusiasm for attending football matches, which was a well-documented phenomenon at the time, hence why i referenced it Combine a similar effect, and the enhanced marketing opportunities that might arise from a WC win in 2026, with successful campaigns on the pitch and the possibilities of Project 5000 are enhanced As ever, stats need to be put into context

Yeah, undoubtedly a rise at the top end as noted, just it didn’t seem to feed down to all levels. As ever with Dale, it’ll all depend on what we do when opportunities arise. Looking at the figure, it shows how having a successful team really did make a difference in the past. Average home crowds were at the 3000-3300 mark for a couple of seasons before that 6th place, before leaping to 4686 in 64/65. They then dropped back to the previous level the year after.

| world cup draw on 19:28 - Dec 6 with 11 views | EllDale | I seem to remember going to a home game against Millwall in April 1965 with 15000 in atttendance. It was a pretty drab 0-0 affair and not many came back after that. Some things don’t change! | | | |
