I don't think Colchester will be promoted this season but if they were I'd back the Cowleys to avoid relegation next. There's a real problem for promoted teams bridging the gap between Championship and Premier League. There is not the same chasm between Leagues One and Two especially with Danny and Nicky at the helm. |

Well the team have a few extra hours to recover before Gillingham on Tuesday in what will be Ainsworth's second match in charge and his first at home. 2025 started with two defeats in the league before the team put it behind them and got back on track. Let's hope The U's train is safely on the rails at The Priestfield Stadium. |

Highest crowd of the season. How often that is the way. |

I hope Bradford City didn't get their bad performance out of their system against Tranmere. Before today they'd won ten home league matches in a row. But today's defeat followed a loss at Gillingham in their last match. Anyway, another superb result for The U's today. What a run! |

What a ridiculous decision. We only have to look at how long it has taken the brothers to mould the squad into shape to see managers/coaches need time and patience. Lindsey was a very popular appointment when he arrived. His Crawley team had thrashed MK Dons in last season's play-off semi-final and been promoted. I know there has been a growing discontentment among much of MK's support but a good owner needs to back his manager and ignore the siren calls, at least till he's had a year and a couple of windows. Scott Lindsey had five months. |

The last time I saw Sunderland play away was twenty-five years ago losing 1-0 at Blackburn in The F.A. Cup. I have two memories of that match. One that we were unlucky but the other that practically all the thousands of Sunderland supporters stood for the entire ninety minutes. I looked at a poor old fellow too frail to stand and unable to see the pitch and thought how selfish and thoughtless those fans were. Of course it has become the norm but that doesn't make it any less objectionable. I hope the introduction of safe standing might alleviate the problem but I won't hold my breath. |

And came on after 73 minutes in a 1-2 win. |

Joe Taylor might be back tomorrow. Huddersfield and Michael Duff need him to get their season back on track. |

I'm afraid promotion is probably too much to ask for this season. But if it could be achieved I don't think it would be something to fear. With the Cowleys in charge and providing Mr Cowling gives them a reasonable budget in the summer I'd expect Colchester United to have enough to survive in League One. Anyway, let's hope promotion isn't looking even less likely after tonight's trip to Meadow Lane. |
