It's hard to say for certain if the manager or players were complacent but our second half performances are baffling. However sports Republic and spors could be charged with complacency if they genuinely believe that we have the players at the back to sustain a challenge in the top half of the table. For too long now we've had a defence and goalkeepers who in a successful team would be reserves/backup rather than regular starters.
Eckert has worked wonders with the squad but now he's got to rebuild confidence or protect against complacency (if that is an issue). Norwich did us a favour in many ways by pointing out to the board that despite the improvement in results the squad is flawed but this flaw is fixable if the board are serious about being competitive.

We've had a dodgy back 5 for 4 seasons or so now. When we went up we conceded loads of goals but generally managed to score more, and often had to come back from behind in plenty of games. In the prem we seemed to concede 3 per game. Why do we struggle to find decent CBS? Bloody odd. If the club are serious about either going up or going up and staying there they need to pay the going rate for 2 decent CBS and maintain 2 of the current crop as back up.
Watching the highlights just now I'd forgotten how incompetent our defenders are in the air. In this league goals often come from crosses but if we can't win even half of these bread and butter duels we're going to make life hard for ourselves. |

Seems churlish to focus on the negative after the last few weeks and the return turnaround. However at half time I had a feeling that WBA would come at us, maybe their manager showed them the highlights of the Millwall game, and that we'd likely concede and not score again. Turned out fine but this 45 was similar, if not worse, than the Brum second 35.
I'm a glass half full football fan so while I don't think the fans were complacent I think the players maybe were. Eckert was too formalaic with the subs but I'm sure he'll learn from tonight and will drill the message against complacency into the players.
This is still a league where anyone can beat anyone if you switch off and unless saints bring their A game Norwich will be tough and they'll make it hard for us to break them down.
As for the January window it would be good to get the yank and some of the under used squad out on loan and put the money on saved wages on a reliable CB to reduce the exposure of our average GKs.
Leaving the match early on a night like this evening is odd but you pays your money etc

Is anyone confident that sports rep are going to get this call; right? Based on their track record I'm a little worried. Write a list of managers that you really do not fancy to the the job in order of least favourite and that will probably be similar to their short list.
6 PTS against average teams is fine but the squad is short of quality in vitally crucial positions. If I could sign one position in January it would be A GK, Rambo on loan maybe.

The possibly bigger issue than a manager is lack of striker, solid GK and average CBS. Any manager would struggle with these baked in weaknesses. There are a handful of decent players in the squad but far too many mediocre ones which can't be sold because nobody wants them.
Sports Republic please sell up.

If Will goes who/what replaces him? Another obscure appointment who has to stabilise the club with the current crop of mediocrity at their disposal.

We're in a right old mess. Sports Republic are the issue, bad management decisions, scatter gun approach to transfers, not buying a solid GK, CB or striker, not having a director of football for 9 months.
If I was a conspiracy theorist I'd suspect that the issues mentioned above were a deliberate ploy to hide some kind of financial shenanigans.
As others have said, after yesterday where do we go.
Huge credit to the loyalty shown by our incredible fans. You'll be there long after the clowns have packed up and left, you're the heartbeat of the club and you particularly deserve much better than the rubbish you're being served.

Very frustrating being a saints fan with the amount of money spent) available and yet cannot beat very average but well organised teams.
This championship division looks weaker than the one we left last year but we're in the bottom half of the table a quarter of the way through. It's hard to gauge if progress is being made in part because of the churn within the selection process and the defensive formations - 5 at the back and 1 upfront against Swansea at home?
As for the injury to the only potential regular goalscorer in the team. Not exactly unexpected was it.
Things could of course be worse and changing the manager isn't the answer because sports direct will replace this one with another obscure choice. We're not going up this season which isn't such a bad thing but once the parachute payments run low sports directs transfer policy will be fascinating to observe.

Agree with others that there's no point going up this season as we will come down just as embarrassingly as last season.
Sports Republic are a second string bunch of costermongers whose specialty is owning second tier lower level European league clubs so we are where we should be.

Not a great deal has changed at the club over the past 4 seasons. Still the same absence of decent CBS and lack of goalscorer and stacking the team high in mediocrity continues. Sports Republic view us a championship club so that's what we've become.
There are worse places to be I guess.
