 | News Comment | Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict at 10:31:45
Four wins on the bounce are never a flash in the pan. How could they possibly now give the job to someone apart from Eckert? Imagine if they did and the new guy failed. It's not going to happen. |
 | News Comment | Tonda Eckert Hits The Top Spot In Bookies Favourites List at 09:39:41
Unless a spectacularly experienced or successful (in this league) manager might be available, I wouldn't rush to appoint anyone. Anyone else is going to be as much of a gamble as sticking with Eckert. The face that Eckert has won the last two games needs to be taken seriously. We hadn't won back to back games in 18 months and neither have we have much of a new manager bounce. The next three games will give us much more information about Eckart. I would give him those and then let's see. |
 | News Comment | Watt View - Problems Run Far Deeper Than Will Still at 10:36:07
Signing Romeu is a good sign. So is the fact that they acted relatively (for them) swiftly and decisively in sacking Still. Let's see if they can make it three out of three with the appointment of an experienced manager this time. Until we get a decent manager in who really knows what he is doing, we just won't know how good our squad is. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Preston North End The Will Still Obituary Verdict at 11:08:10
The big issue that we've got is that most of us on here have got more experience following the English game and the Championship than Johannes Spors. He is just as out of his depth in the league as Still was and we can only hope that he had learnt quickly at Southampton. We really need an 'old school' manager who knows what he is doing and who can dominate and inspire the dressing room. But maybe such managers don't exist any more. |
 | News Comment | A Big Decision Week For For Southampton FC at 10:16:17
I've been hearing a lot about so much of the blame being on the players rather than Still, but, for me, the manager's job is not just about tactics, team selection and astute substitions, but also about discipline and the man-management of the players. This may be unfair to him, but Still's personality does not ooze authority and his age and lack of experience will not help that. At this stage, after such a long history of regularly losing, and such a series of lightweights and oddballs in charge, this club really needs a manager who the players cannot but respect and respond too. Still never was and still isn't the right guy for the monumental task of turning this Club around. And he will go soon enough, so it might as well be now. The only question for me is that if Spors is off to Juventus, how is the next recruitment going to work ??! |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Bristol City The Verdict at 11:16:14
It's the hope that kills us, but we all know where this ends. Will Still wasn't and isn't experienced enough to manage a team to success in this league. It's difficult to identify exactly what is wrong, but your Report goes a long way to stating it. As a 'team' we are not coherent and we are lightweight and quite easy to contain and sometimes beat. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Swansea City The Verdict at 11:52:44
I saw the game like this too, Nick. We had a great 10 minute spell at the end of the first half because of 1 player Scienza and then we had one great chance in the second half where it was easier to score. But apart from that, I agree that we didn't seem to know what we were doing. Simple question. How is that we have bought two of the top performing Championship players of last year, and we're struggling how to fit them into the team? Likewise, what are Aribo and Edozie doing out in the cold? All the useless managers we have had in the last few years have talked a great game right up to the moment they were sacked. Right path, success just around the corner, all that b0ll0cks. We shouldn't pay any notice to what Will Still has to say about the performance. |
 | News Comment | Will Still Appears To Have Decided Loanee Has No Future At St Mary's at 11:18:44
Beynali73, for all that SISU nearly killed Coventry, they had got them back to the Championship with a good manager in place (Robins) and a winning mentality before they eventually sold to Doug King. And now Coventry are flying. I am no even sure that Solak is going to compare favourably to SISU when all is done and dusted... |
 | News Comment | Will Still Appears To Have Decided Loanee Has No Future At St Mary's at 10:35:28
Is anyone else utterly BORED by anything to do with Saints' recruitment and what the completely inexperienced Will Still might do with the ramshackle squad that the completely inexperienced Johannes Spors has assembled for him? I am guessing that Solak, Spors and Still see themselves as geniuses in some kind of 'moneyball' game, but the proof of the pudding is on the pitch and so far they have all fallen flat on their stupid faces into a giant custard pie... |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Portsmouth The Verdict at 10:25:32
That's a very fair report. I agree that Still made the subs too late and, I think, got them wrong. Armstrong from Archer was sensible but I think Robinson should have come in for Azaz at the same time. Robinson wasn't making his debut and I think he may have added that little bit of attacking quality from midfield to change the balance of the game. |
 | News Comment | Southampton FC Issue Ivan Juric Statement at 15:25:40
I've got no personal animosity towards Juric either and yes he took over a struggling team that was ill equipped for the PL but let's not get carried away. To say he was on a 'hiding to nothing' is nonsense. If he had anything about him he would have been able to bring at least some measure of improvement to the team. Instead, he managed to make sesults even worse. A different manager, a better manager might at least have got us on a par pointswise with Leicester and Ipswich. Juric has been a disaster as a manager for us. |
 | News Comment | Saints Johannes Spors Has Been Speaking To The Media Again at 10:02:21
Nothing interesting from Spor, as could only have been expected. But good to see he's already up to speed with SR speak: "They put him in the right moments, and it's exciting to see him on the pitch. He is still young and still has a lot of potential. He has areas where he can be better. "It's a good situation for us to have a player like him in our club, and everything else in the future will show honestly. In the end, we always have the same goal. "It's all about development. Development, in general, is a headline for this football club because it's possible and needed. Dibling is a good example of that, a role model for other young players. "When you want to work on development, relationships are important. Relationships with his parents, agents and maybe family. That is a factor." Meaningless waffle. "They put him in the right moments" - this is gibberish. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Bournemouth The Verdict at 09:52:45
There was an opportunity after Martin to steady the ship, and to stop the endless series of defeats that we and the players were having to endure. (Well there was an opportunity after about 8 games of watching Martin in the PL to do that, but let's not get into that). This chancer has come in, not improved the results a jot and I believe we are even conceding more goals than under Martin. And Nick you are spot on about his team selections and substitutions but he was like this at Roma and it's a sure sign that he really doesn't have a scooby-doo what he's doing. My worry now is it the effect that all this is having on the players. Are we really going to continue to the end of the season and inevitable relegation, playing completely random football and losing and conceding goal after goal every single week? All these players are going to need years of therapy to get over the trauma of all this. It's too much now. |
 | News Comment | Are Things Far From Ok In The Southampton Camp ? at 10:56:40
@Fisk27. Exactly that. Juric's points total is so low that, yes, it's not difficult to imagine someone else doing better. Simon Rusk managed to get a point at Fulham, after all. It's possible to point to some players under Juric who have prospered, but equally others have clearly been left behind and have fallen out with him. I would describe his tenure so far as chaotic. This madness might bring the odd good performance or even win, but I don't see it bringing anything like the consistency that will be required to get us promoted again. That said, neither do I see the Club willing or able to recruit the players that will get us promoted again, and certainly not with the quality that can then compete in the PL. I think Sports Republic have taken us from the status of solid (if unspectacular) Premier League to a 'top half' Championship side and joining the ranks of many other Clubs who now have that fate - Stoke, Norwich, Boro, Watford, Blackburn, WBA, Burnley... I can't imagine this was their plan but who knows, they are not just thinking about Saints - there are other clubs in their 'stable' too. |
 | News Comment | Are Things Far From Ok In The Southampton Camp ? at 19:32:45
People keep saying that we can't blame the manager because the problems lie higher up. 'No one could get a tune out of this squad' - that type of nonsense. And yes Sports Republic have been a disaster and pretty much every decision they have made has been a shocker. But that includes appointing Juric, who has been pretty hopeless on the pitch and who now seems to have Balkanised the dressing room too. And it probably also includes Spor - a man whose skill set (if he has one) is in managing multi-club structures. I think we will look back on the period since Sports Republich took over as pretty much all error and misery, with a great play-offs and Wembley appearance being the exception to the rule. And it's just going to continue imo. If Sports Republc had anything about them, they would have grabbed the hand off being back in the Premier League so quickly. Instead they allowed our season to be over after 8 games or so. Absolute muppets. Idiots. And Juric is no good. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Burnley The FA Cup Verdict at 10:52:44
He's a magician this Juric. To turn the performance and result against Ipswich into this in such a short space of time is pretty impressive. |
