His outlook & the way he set his teams up to play has always been dire. However, unlike most managers in the EPL when his teams lose, he nearly always conducted his interviews with a fair & constructive assessment. He’ll get plenty of offers from clubs looking to hold on to EPL status or trying to get promoted |

If only PSR (FFP) was applied fairly for all clubs. There has always been too many loopholes with paltry sentences handed out to those who don’t comply. The likes of Cardiff, Stoke, Leicester, Bournemouth, Forest, Chelsea etc. seem to have been getting away with it for years with hardly any noteworthy punishment whatsoever. The whole circus will remain a farce as long as the EPL holds all the power. |

Even more so when you think we could have had O’Riley instead. We didn’t need a keeper when Fisher came in , we already had Hamer & Benda |

Phenomenal support as always by the Geordies. Both clubs fielded their strongest line ups too. I remember being disappointed with our support at Stamford Bridge the night we beat Chelsea 0-2 in our 1st leg semi. It certainly wasn’t at the level that we took away to most matches in that era. Great memories though. |

Not good enough - like a number of other recent signings. His stats are a little better than I thought to be fair. Is he being played out of position, if so what is his position ? |

Only just seen it thanks for that. It’s clear that the odds are stacked against Darling signing a new contract - wonder how much the saga of last week has really impacted the offer … Conor Roberts … never let us down, we should not be breaking the bank for a full / wing back imo even if he comes for ‘free’ at the end of the season. It’s disappointing that none of the academy options have really come close to helping us out this season. We need strengthening all over the pitch in reality to be any kind of force in this division. With Darling leaving on a free that’s reduced our sellable assets significantly & will cost a decent transfer fee just to replace him. |

West Ham gig is a bit of a poison chalice. A big fan base of deluded fans. On the other hand the longer Potter stays out of the game the more his stock will fall. Can’t see him getting a bigger job in this country. West Ham have spent a fortune on players & unearthed some good players but can never seem to hang to them. Make or break time for Potter’s career |

Bringing Low in to supplement Darling & Cabango should be seen as a positive move by the club to build for next season. Bringing Low in & selling Darling considerably weakens the squad. Be that for the remainder of this season or next. Bringing Low in after selling Darling first is a very high risk strategy & would be put the current regime on a par with the jokers who have just sold out. There is still time to sort this mess out. If Darling holds out & joins the likes of Bristol or Birmingham then that should tell you all everything about the ambition the club has in the short term |

An alternative view: Cooper - got us closer to a return to the big League than any other manager since relegation. A big part of that was due to some of his loan signings. Football under Martin & Williams is as dull as anything under Cooper & Duff was even worse Martin - I don’t know anyone who would want him back even to clean the urinals Duff - his ‘football’ was as dull & uninspiring as his personality. He was never a good fit as demonstrated by his dismissal of the importance of the derby to fans. He sounded like several ex Cardiff managers, not the brightest Williams - continues to be uninspiring & lacking in how he reads the game. The squad he has is weaker in quality & numbers than anytime since pre Martinez days. Grimes is still one of our better players despite being pretty mediocre too often |
| Forum Reply | These questions need asking of Luke Williams at 18:06 1 Jan 2025
He should have addressed the comments made before this match - in fact the club could have forced him to put out a statement. I have to admit when I saw the team selection I feared the worse, but 4-0 is an embarrassment. Just hope the grown ups are advanced in their search for a new coach either way as he is taking us nowhere |

It’s the disruption & negativity that will affect the squad & the club as a whole. He has spent a lot of time developing relationships with a lot of players brought in from abroad, players signing new contracts etc. if he were to go all that work is wasted & it’s start again with new methods, different playing style, motivational relationships & so on As a coach he is pretty average 18 wins in 48 games, 37% win average for us. I don’t see why WBA would want him based on his performance with us. His response to questions asked are disappointing to say the least |

It would be good to get 1 or 2 signings over the line early in the window for a change. I wouldn’t put my mortgage on it. Difficult time to get any club to release players who are playing regularly especially if they are in with a shout of play offs or at risk of relegation |

Nice to read some honesty on the state of the squad & the legacy left by the departed ones. Also good to see so many posters agreeing instead of the usual sniping (maybe because of who wrote this piece) …. I don’t see us troubling the play off mix. Get rid of the loans who do not improve the squad. None of them do, despite what LW says about MPH. The most important thing is to have a better second half to the season than the first half & to finish strong to set up some confidence for next season |
