Fully agree we need to ensure it clearly still works but I think our current record of bringing players into the first team from 17-20 years old is excellent. Over the past 8 years the list would include:

Chair, Eze, Manning, Bright, Lumley, Dieng, Armstrong, Lloyd, Kolli, Manning, Smyth, Morgan and Sutton.

There are a few more that have played a handful of games. But that’s over 2 a year on average to have come through the DS and play a decent amount of Championship games.

Nourry on new H&F board
at 12:19 10 May 2025

If the pitch was moved around so pointing more towards the power league pitches, it would alleviate some of the limitations around the school/ Ellerslie and the Ellerslie/Loft corners of the ground. It could provide the footprint to allow the H&S to stop being the major curtailing issue as we expand into SA side which has a lot of space already at the SA/Loft corner.

Time will tell but it feels the best option for expanding the ground that I have heard….

Cardiff would need to win 3 of their 4 games and for us not to get a point given the goal difference. I cannot see them winning 3 of 4. Luton need to win all 4 to overtake us. Would take something absolutely incredible from here to be relegeted

Where has this £1.7m fee and 25% sell on information come from? This would be a significant profit for a player that has looked well below par…?

Football is different to the other sports mentioned because it’s not only endurance with a
lot of running, there is also short sharp sprinting, quick turning, jumping and or course a lot of physical contact. In the other sports like tennis and cycling, they carry out intense periods of activity for a tour or tournament but then have weeks of rest if needed.

The number of footballing injuries back up the need for managing loading, including our injury list this year.

This doesn’t sound like plantar fasciitis, but rather damage to the planter fascia.I’ve had PF a couple of times and it’s generally an irritating painful feeling in the foot, especially first thing in the morning. I had various physio, innersoles and roller balls etc and it got better over time. A niggly injury a bit like tennis elbow. Cook went down like he’d been shot and I initially assumed he’d torn his achilles or calf. Presumably he’s strained the planter facia, as they said no tear, and that will take a bit of time to heal but doesn’t sound like a chronic issue like planter fasciitis is

I really hope he doesn’t get sacked. Yesterday was far better and we should stick with him come what may. The squad is poorly balanced, ravaged with injuries and ultimately even if it is all his fault, that too should rest with Nourry as he just gave him a new long term contract!!

Anyway, if and when he goes, next home game, to the tune of ‘he’s one of our own’

‘It should have been you, it should have been youuuuu,
Christian Nourry, it should have been you’
On repeat, followed by Marti’s song

Feels like this thread is perhaps more for those who prefer to read than watch films, or at least films of the blockbuster action variety.

The original Gladiator is a fantastic film. But if you are looking for a thriller, suspense drama, or horror film it’s perhaps not your cup of tea

Nourry should walk.

He’s getting one thing right, he wants an ethos and style of football to be consistently played throughout the entire club from U8s to first team. Doing that brilliantly at the moment, loosing week after week, at every grade we play in without any discernible style of play…

Match Thread: Hull is for Heroes
at 22:35 1 Oct 2024

Come on everyone let’s get a bit of a grip. They scored an absolute worldy against the run of play and Anderson had a complete brain fade trying to play the ball in his own box rather than putting his foot through it. Other than that, we completely battered them in the first half.

The second half was frustrating and they played very well on the break. The real issue here is not the last 20 mins but rather our inability to put the ball in the net when we’re on top. We should have been 2 up in 5 mins, could have scored a couple in the first 10 after half time, but continuously we shoot high too high or straight at the keeper. There’s a real lack of composure in front of goal and it’s costing us.

It will come, the new players will improve with minutes in the division and we’ll be fine this season. But the expectations are too high. Last season we didn’t even look like scoring a goal from open play at this stage. Keep the faith

I’m not on all the ‘socials’ but there was a lovely piece written on here when he made his debut by his Dad.

If there is an underlying issue here it’s a real shame. I met him with my son after a game earlier this year getting his shirt signed. We had a quick chat about his injury and he seemed a good lad. He’s been with us since he was 8, is a local lad (Hounslow I think). Looked fantastic in the U18s and looked pretty good pre season etc.

He also got hit with all the bile on Twitter in the summer apparently by those keyboard warriors.

I have really looked forward to seeing him develop with us and hope if there is anything in this that it gets resolved positively with the club.

Really sorry for your loss and hope you have all the support around you that you need. Sounds like you have been an amazing brother to him and despite everything else he had to cope with, he was very fortunate to have such a caring brother.

Transfer rumours 2024
at 17:51 21 Aug 2024

On the same vein as the amortisation of transfer fees. I suspect last year was the final one where the Dykes and Willock fees were spread across. Likely we also paid a joining fee to Dozell and suspect that was spread over the contract too.

The issue with 2021 was the impact of amortised transfer fees AND significant salaries. An an example if we are paying Varane £10k a week and a £900k fee the it’s the equivalent of £16k a week over the life of the 3 years…or £800k a year. The same as the Willock transfer amortisation and salary if he was on £10k per week. If Celar cost £2m the amortisation would be similar to Dykes from the 2020 transfer.

Caveat……I audit mainly listed companies and not looked in detail at football finance, but I would be surprised if the upfront acquisition costs are not all spread as I have described above over the initial contract length at the date of signing…..

It will also have a knock on impact on next 3 years as the cost is incurred evenly over the contract. So will bite next year and so on. The club may well expect Eze will be sold or we’ll sell one of JCS, Chair or one of the acquisitions on that period to balance the books. Difference to 2021 was the complete lack of any sell on value with Uncle, Gray, Stef, Austin, Wallace etc

Transfer fees are amortised (spread) over the life of the contract for accounting purposes. So the profit on the Armstrong transfer is recognised immediately, transfer fees paid spread over the life. So in accounting terms suspect were not far off break even. We are likely then at a lower wage bill per week than last year given the number of high earners removed in the summer. So I don’t think this transfer business is as crazy as some have suggested but I could be wrong. PS I am a chartered accountant but haven’t crunched the numbers.

Or as I raised before. We may have received the thick end of £3m from him starting a game for England in the summer…..

Interesting idea especially if the £60m buy out expired this month. Palace, knowing he could then move for more than £60m post that happening May have offered the sell on at £60m or a haircut on it knowing that they may sell for much more afterwards.

Wasn’t a large chunk of the Eze add ons when he started a game for England? Presumably it’s likely we have already earnt a further £3m or so from that, irrespective of any sell on?

Fair point, but the club are not currently all about openness and for the record, how many calf injuries did Taylor Richards have last season??
