I understand the point about his wages and injury record. Hopefully the club have done due diligence (lol) and taken a good look at his injuries this year and come to an evaluation of what that means for next season.
I think ultimately the point that Clive has made on a few pods about the risk of losing all the experience in the squad in one fell swoop would be too damaging to a team as apparently mentally fragile as ours is correct, so this has be taken as good news.
Do people think we might see Yang back here next season? He's had some of his best performances in the past few games. I thought his goal in the week was excellent, and he looked good again as a striker on Saturday. Might be that Marti wants him again having worked with him for a bit and Spurs may not want him yet next year, no idea about their squad tbh.
I'm a _huge_ fan of his. I saw him at Tramlines festival around 2010ish I'd say, went up to him and told him he's a legend etc etc , you know, dead casual like... Watched his Chester P For Mayor documentary only this week in which he makes a point of saying how irritating he finds it when drunk blokes do that. I mean he doesn't mention me by name but still...
I'm legit impressed by this though. Call him a legend from me 😂. Seems a seriously decent bloke by all accounts
I think he appeared on one of Louis Slipperz 10 pound bag mixtapes didn't he? Some one gave me that cd in about 2001, which got me into Jehst, Taskforce et al and I never looked back 😎
Just idle thoughts really, but looking at players who are likely to be in the squad next season, maybe 352 would be a better option . For one thing we don't look like having any FBs assuming Paal and Dunne leave. We have a handful of CBs and CMs, two potential wingbacks in Saito and Smyth, and Frey aside (who doesn't look like being able to play home and away across a season) some strikers who look better suited to playing in a two.
A key chapter in the Lessons Learned folder this season has been that we need to beef up CM to get anything out of games, so playing with Varane, Field, and Morgan/Colback in the middle looks right to me.
Whatever people think of Kelman and Celar, they do have one standout attribute which is that they are currently QPR players
My point being that both players look ill-suited to playing up top on their own, but would likely benefit from having another player alongside them to work opportunities in the box.
Edit Kolli also doesn't look a natural lone striker to me.
Big sell on from Eze aside, assuming we don't have the money to buy an effective lone striker, I wonder if next season we might experiment with a different 'game model', with Celar and Kelman up front in a two?...
I didn't see the game, but Gallen made a point on the WLS pod that Field was winning headers from long clearances in an attacking position, which is something we've struggled with all season.
There's a lovely video of it from the reverse angle behind the goal on the QPR Whatsapp channel. (Although he does make the dubious claim that "last night was perfect")
