That just about sums it up - England players get paid about £2,000 per game but since the setting up of the EFF (England Football Foundation) in 2007 they all donate their appearance fees to the aforementioned charity.
From memory, the issue of who pays the Club wages whilst players are on International duty is buried deep in the 743 pages of the FA’s Association Rules - it’s a long time since I have needed to refer to them!
I know that an agreement signed between the ECA (European Clubs Association), UEFA & FIFA makes the National Associations obligated to fully compensate Clubs for players injured whilst on International Duty but for the duration of International call- ups I think you are correct, the Clubs are still paying the players wages.

As a fellow dyslexic, my sister supports the Society’s fundraising initiatives although she ended up going to their recent toga party dressed as a goat - that was after taking her kids to see Satan last Christmas…

If the Echo are to be believed then yes, we are returning to traditional bar stripes 🙂

If Rooney is not careful and really upsets the Plymouth locals he won’t be getting bailed by the local constabulary but more likely baled by angry local farmers with access to a hay baler 😀⚽️

Saints Announce Pre Season Schedule
at 18:03 27 Jun 2024

We did the same thing last season when we played Benfica pre-season but nothing was kept secret on that occasion as they made the game available free on the SFC website. That said, when that game was played last season we had nothing to keep secret as nobody knew who would be there six weeks later - from memory Livramento looked particularly good that day…

Slovakia next up for England
at 23:37 26 Jun 2024

Having won Group C, England will play Slovakia in the last 16. If they win they will play either Switzerland or Italy in the quarter-finals, with the Netherlands, Romania, Austria and Turkey also on our side of the draw. Germany, Spain & France all on the other side of the fence.
Can we emerge from our group stage torpor? What do you think??

Plenty of people have been having kittens after watching England so far - perhaps Southgate could be sent home to be at some of the births…

Agree 100% Butty, bloody awful - Robyn Cowen is as bad, if not worse. Instant mute button response from me every time.
Berber has hit the nail on the head, run with a parallel radio commentary. I am lucky in that I have a 6 y/o Samsung TV that can still get the old school teletext style digital text through the red button. For some games the BBC offer the Radio 5 Live commentary through the red then blue buttons.
This might raise a smile, there was a drone flown over Brentford’s ground during a PL match v Wolves in Jan 2022. When it was reported on Soccer Saturday that a drone had stopped play a mate of mine said “just take the microphone away from Robyn Cowen, problem solved!! ⚽️😂⚽️

At least we won't have to tolerate Shearer tonight.
at 15:01 25 Jun 2024

Grim - re Shearer and the Denmark game, check out if you can get the old school Teletext style Red Button / Digital text service through the red button. If you can when the England games are on the BBC they often [but not always] offer a facility through the red button that gives you the option to watch the game and have the Radio 5 Live commentary instead of the BBC 1 commentary. It comes up on the Teletext landing page / home page menu and when you select it the options are then via the blue button. Not sure if you have a new all singing and dancing ultra smart TV if that option still exists but on my 6 y/o Samsung it does and offers me a Shearer-free watching experience for those who find him irritating 😀⚽️ That may or may not help you depending how new your telly is….

Agreed, for example, look at the traditional Boxing Day full fixture list - it’s now absolutely sh#t-wrecked by the ‘broadcast partners’ - it started off with one game being moved to the next day, now it’s nearly half of them gone.
As you say, this is just the start, God only knows where it will end up going. I agree with the sentiment expressed by Noel G but the problem is the combination of the money and the likes of Sky have now created a monster that will consume the game we all love. All very difficult to see how the monster created can be satisfied without selling out the traditions and the real fans who attend the games but both the real fans and the traditions will be disregarded as the cartel further prostitute their Clubs for more and more money.
I guess it comes to a point where the demonstrations we saw when a handful of the greedy Clubs tried to sign up for the hastily aborted European Super League will have to recommence more along the lines of the kind of direct action that the Man Utd fans took but if they start moving games away from the UK that won’t work.
The day the FA Cup Final moves to Dubai, Qatar or an NFL Super Bowl venue will be the day I turn my back on the game for good, get another Siberian Husky and go back to spending weekends taking it for long runs in the New Forest…

Agree 100% - but be ready for a stern telling off from Saints Fan 73 😀

Article in the Echo recently stated that we were going back to proper red & white bar stripes for next season so just hoping they don’t jazz it up too much and we end up with something similar to what is in the link - I await the wrath of SF 73… 🙃

Palace ready to be picked off
at 21:17 6 Jun 2024

When talking about Liveremento before the start of the season that has just ended Nick used an expression that has stuck in my mind, he said that the PL clubs would not allow Tino to stay at Southampton - sadly I think Palace will suffer a similar fate to Saints the summer the cartel (mainly Liverpool) as good as dismantled our team, likewise, I can see the cartel clubs ‘not allowing’ the best of the current crop to stay at Palace.

Solent Toffee, are Everton doing any extra games / events after the last PL game? Or is. It too early to tell? After the Arsenal game Saints had Dodd’s testimonial, then the last ever game, a farewell game against Brighton, our first ever opponents at The Dell, then the very last event which was a formal dinner in a large marquee on the pitch. Ended up with a good mate sat in the dugout very late in the evening with a bottle port raising multiple toasts to many a famous ex-Saint. It was a great way to say goodbye to the old girl, an occasion that will live long in my memory…

VAR
at 20:24 6 Jun 2024

I notice that in the build up to the vote one of the scare tactics adopted by the PL in the briefing documentation was that if the clubs scrapped VAR there would be 100 more wrong decisions per season (made by refs, currently corrected by VAR) - of course, they totally failed to mention the plethora of wrong decisions made by VAR or the failure of VAR to intervene and make any decision on occasions when they could and should have done. I contend that those errors or inactions would probably come close to equalling the 100 wrong decisions the PL claim that VAR corrects. Very one sided briefing from the PL; not that they needed to have worried, vote went 19-1 in favour of retention with just Wolves voting to scrap it - it will be very interesting to see how many positive outcomes Wolves get from VAR reviews next season 😀⚽️😀

Saints Release Key Dates For 2024/25 Premier League Return
at 14:32 5 Jun 2024

Nick, may I respectfully suggest for either Saturday 5th April, midweek or Saturday 12th April that we add Bait The Sk8 Day to the list - one of those will be the day when it becomes mathematically impossible for them to remain in the Championship thus returning them to their rightful place in the nether regions of the Football League 🙂⚽️🙂

For some reason I thought it was Ticketmaster that was the 3rd party who posted our tickets out, perhaps not on reflection so I have edited the original post.
Must be having a senior moment after all the recent excitement…
Likewise, I use PP a lot for that extra layer of protection to my debit card when buying online.
