Haha.

We had a front 2 of Baird & Rideout plus Gosney in goal who later played for the Skates.
Not a bad side, knocked out in 1/4 final of the English Schools Shield at the Dell against a Bristol team with Gary Mabbutt and Ian Holloway.

I get your point Pat but if I am sat in the dressing room and he commences his team talk, I would need some smelling salts to wake me up.
Last Saturday he stood in the technical area with mainly his hands on his hips whilst his Watford counterpart was very animated. Not in the same league in as Koeman
Like you, I have followed Saints through thick and thin from happy childhood days of Ted Bates, the glory years Lawrie Mac, dark days of Harry Redkrapp through to the present. I will always support the team no matter what but I am concerned about our club. We looked terribly disjointed in the first half against Watford better in the second but we only drew against a mediocre side.
Tonight we deserved nothing.
Sorry to be negative but it is my honest opinion of the current situation.

But we lost and that is ultimately down to the manager. This is a results business and yes I agree we kept possession well, looked lively at times but never had the cutting edge.
Davis did not close Rooney down quick enough and a poor challenge from Clasie cost us the game.
Pretty football but the difference between the 2 sides in my opinion was that they were ruthless and we were not. It is going to be a tough season with this chap in charge.

How about representing Southampton Under 14s and U 15s, South East Counties League, Hampshire League 1. Does that count?

I had a heated discussion with a Claude supporter last week at the Watford game.
He lives in France and the French press really rate him. My point is this aint La Ligue and media performance, knowing how to handle the press is just as important as managing the team.
In my opinion we have invested in a Les Reed puppet. No better than a French version of Stuart Gray or even worsen a Froggy Steve Wigley.

It is bloody annoying as we were still in the game up until this point. I cant really see this happening if RK was still in charge.
Claude Puel lacks a presence, I know it is early days but as a fan he doesn't inspire me and I am sure the players feel the same. I hope I am proved wrong.

Tyro League (an oldie but a goody) - who did you play for?
at 05:14 23 Apr 2016

The Tyro League was not formed until the 1970-71 season as it was previously known as "The Halo League"
The original members that I can remember were Albion Boys, All Whites, Brendon Sports, Toronto Terriers, Millbrook Lions, Mansell Rovers, Cromer Crusaders, Thornhill Utd, Test Park, Fair Oak Earls, Sky Blues, Sarisbury Sparks, Wembley Seekers and Windsor Utd.
My Dad started the Sparks for my brother and I as we had recently moved down South from Derby and the kickabouts on the Green were beginning to grown in numbers. The "Jumpers for Goalposts" and "Rush Goalies" matches were soon 15 a side. We had a decent junior school team so we entered the inaugural Tyro League.
We played our home games at Allotment Road and traveled to play teams like All Whites on the Common, and nearly every other away game seemed to be either at Green Park, Test Park or the Sports Centre. We had one infamous game against Sky Blues at Hinkler Road who had the Stanley brothers, Graham Roberts and David Puckett playing for them. I remember the pitch being covered in glass, making a sliding tackle and cutting my leg but didn't realise until after the match as we were desperate to beat them.
A year later one of our friends joined the team and his father worked for Redlands Brickworks in Swanwick. The manager kindly let us use the old derelict cricket pitch for the next season, so all of the families got to work over the summer to cut the long grass, install some goalposts, decorate the old pavilion with our club colours of old gold and black.
A skinny long haired 12 year old kid from Warsash then signed for us. He scored a 100 goals before Christmas, his name was Steve Moran.
We enjoyed the next few years playing at Coal Park Lane and the club flourished introducing more teams as it grew and hosting a popular annual six-a side tournament, sell out discos with chicken and chips donated by the local Chippy in Barnes Lane, Sarisbury.
Many of our players graduated to Saints first team such as Moran, Baird, Whitlock and Pratt.
We are all in our fifties now but this post had me reminiscing.
Sarisbury Sparks 1970 to the present, the original "Saints Academy"

Hello Chop Chop,
Yes I believe it was either the 1-2 home defeat against Spurs when J Rod scored in the pouring rain or may have been before that , last home game of the season against Southend when it was a complete sell out. I bought if from a chap in Titchfield Lane.
Anyway all the best to you.

I live nearby and have always found this a great pub.
Good food, real ales, juke box, parrots outside and a pool table.
The owners are from Southampton unlike the previous Skate tw@ts who were rude and typically Pikey.
Still in a SO post code although really close to the border. You will be safe if you take your inoculations and breathing apparatus. Never drink PortsMOUTH water unless boiled to very high temperature.

They had 4 teams and I played for their first team in my 40s which was the old 3rd Division in New Zealand so I could not have been that bad!
I tried to "live the dream" and emigrate and unfortunately it didn't work. I was fair to their country and gave it my best shot. I can assure you I was definitely not a "Whinging Pom" and made every effort to mix with the locals and my employers.
The Kiwis definately suffer from an identity crisis, they don't know whether they are Europeans or Maoris and In my opinion I found the Kiwis generally lacking in a sense of a humour and bloody tight.
The country has a lot going for it and there is huge potential. It was a complete massive mistake on my part but at least I had a go unlike some who just talk about it.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your time in New Zealand.

I used to live in Bethlehem and played for Otumoetai FC. What a bunch of sissys that league was ! We were always taught growing up in Southampton to "get your tackles in early" and "let the opposition know you are there". After making my debut I was roped off within 5 minutes by our manager for being too aggressive after slid tackling against a German playing for Papamoa. We then had to buy pizzas after the match for our opponents whilst the captain nominated a " man of the match" and spoke nicely about the away team.
This was all too much for me and I started to feel very homesick and wished I was back playing on the sloping pitch of Moorgreen Rd with feisty local Derbies against Fair Oak, Hedge End and Durley.
I found the the Kiwis to be touchy, sensitive, confused bastards in general. Coupled with weak tasting expensive beer and working for a Dutch Kiwi who could peel an orange in his pocket and was tight as a Nun's nasty my stay in NZ was not long and I have absolutely no wish to return.
Nice beach but fxxk the rest of it. Couldn't wait to come home to God's country.
All the best and Up The Saints

If he came off his line and showed some bravery then it might not look so bad. This is not a witch hunt for Gazza. Any player who pulls on Saints shirt will always receive the support of genuine Saints fans. We all had a gut full of expensive overpaid journeymen putting in lacklustre displays when we dropped down 2 divisions but the performance yesterday of Jos, Fox and Gazza falls into that annoying category.
I just want him to dive in front of flying boots and show some passion. Am I being to hard on the lad ? I

I can't watch when the opposition have shot on goal. It is worse than seeing the Daleks on Doctor Who when I was a kid.
I break into a cold sweat when he is in goal and if we don't replace him before Thursday, I don't think I can survive another Saints game. Along with Flat Foot Jos and the most Non -Cunning Fox that I have ever seen we will be fooking doomed if we don't make 3 wholesale changes ASAP. Apologies for being negative but the knock on effect their poor displays have on the younger players is going to seriously effect our promising start to the season. If we are not careful it could be 1974 all over again !
