TVOS Preview - Rochdale v York City
at 16:14 27 Mar 2025

November 12th-April 1st= 11 points
April 1st- May 8th = 12 points

There are some very fair criticisms on here about McNulty but let's not rewrite the past. The relegation season was caused by Stockdale, Bentley, Gauge and the players.

One of them games where genuinely everyone has had a stinker. Wouldn't be surprised if there's no MOTM today.

Beckwith's form has been alarmingly bad as of late. The lack of urgency in closing down their team and disrupting their play has been unacceptable.

Gilmour being dispossed must've directly led to us conceding close to 5 goals this season. We simply don't look like scoring without Bird. Season looks pretty much over league-wise depressingly.

Bird out for a 'significant period of time' according to McNulty.

Really, really bad news.

If Bird doesn’t play the majority of the season then we won’t make the play-offs. The left side lacked any balance today and as others have said the lack of urgency really stood out. Team definitely didn’t play to Mitchell’s strengths but he was really poor today.

When the other team is in their defensive shape we don’t look like scoring anywhere near often enough.

Credit to McNulty and the team- the last few games we’ve really gone up a gear. As others have said Bird has been a catalyst, he holds up and brings others into play so well. For the first goal his ability to run with the ball too really impressed.

Waller has really kicked on since arriving and reminds me of a young Conrad Logan. His distribution has definitely improved- more credit to both himself and Lillis.

Honourable mentions to Barlow and Kingdon too.

Final word for the defence. It’s as solid as we’ve looked as a collective for a long time.

Didn’t watch today’s game, but thought both Kingdon and Hogan were exceptional midweek. Well done to both.

Of all the postponements I can remember, this is the worst.

Leon Ayinde doing great
at 17:06 26 Jan 2025

Not for me, but Hayes was far too good for this level. What he does have is pace and a willingness to run at defenders in the final third and in terms of our attacking three, I don't think anyone else does that as well as him.

Ayinde on form speeds up our attacking play.

Leicester to be relegated?
at 21:27 26 Dec 2024

Agreed. The year before he left for City he interviewed and got to the final 2 for the Under 23 job- only to be beaten by Maresca. BBM joining Leicester is presumably to help them get back to a style similar to what they were playing under Maresca. Whether that style will be successful for them in the Prem is a different question.

Would love for him to stay. He’s a great representative for the club and has done more than any to reverse the on-field slide. I can completely understand why he would go to Burton (money, league position and training facilites for a start) but I do think there’ll be a better fit in the future if he was to stay.

Either way- I hope the board look at the successes of McNulty’s reign and ensure any potential replacements build on those rather than tears any building blocks down.

I have no idea why he wasn’t asked about it during the post match interview yesterday. Really poor.

Feels like we’ve been watching the same defeat for the last 18 months. We concede a sloppy goal and then the other team largely contains us and limits any significant period of pressure. Without looking at stats it feels like the first goal pretty much dictates the subsequent performance and ultimately result.

Key players are out who would help to change this of course, but I still think we’re short somewhere. I can’t remember too many goals we’ve scored in which we’ve broken down a team who’ve had 11 men between us and the goal.

The team still seems to not understand that goals change games. The amount of chances we miss and soft goals we concede is a really worrying trend. What was an easy shut out has now turned into us hanging on. We’ve lost all momentum at the moment.

Sir Peter makes his debut
at 13:57 1 Sep 2024

Watched it online and as others have said thought it was our best team performance since COVID. A few thoughts:

- East was brilliant and drove forward into space when he could
- We genuinely look like scoring from set pieces again
- The back three were all absolutely superb
- TAR’s deliveries are the best since Bunney had his spell
- Kairo took both goals well
- Allarakia is the National League Jack Grealish
- McNicholas stopped 2/3 decent opportunities by being so positive in his sweeper keeper role

There’s no doubt the game was made easier by the early goal and shows the importance of taking our early chances. Final thing- the top coaches talk about the importance of staying compact when out of possession- our team do that brilliantly which is credit to McNulty. We’ve conceded 2 goals which were both through freak league occurrences more than anything. Our defence alone will put us in a very good position by the end of the season.

Another winger…

Hopefully a good move. One of Allarakia’s best attributes is his ability to spread the oppositions defence- he’s very comfortable standing right on the touch line, drawing the opposition fullback towards him and then releasing the ball late to give our attacking midfielder space.

I thought (except for last minute wonder goal) McBride has probably played a bit too safe when receiving the ball in that space so hopefully Ayinde will run at the centre back a bit.

Burger I see as a fill-in for Gilmour.

Huge credit to McBride. I was critical of him after Tuesday as I didn’t think he was being brave enough in possession but his goal was absolutely fantastic today. Hopefully that kick starts his season.

Credit to McNulty too. Substitutions changed the game for us and 4 points from a very challenging 3 days logistically is a good return.

Edit- final well done to Ferguson. After an injury-hit time here I thought he stepped in really well today.

Frustrating. We have to become more ruthless. We should’ve got 3 points on Saturday and 1 point today. McBride isn’t offering enough and we have to get competition for Mitchell. Both really poor today.
