Is Stuart Armstrong Heading Out Of St Mary's
at 10:38:50

My take was that there is a club interested in him and the story at the weekend re Christie was a journo putting together the if Saints sold Armstrong scenario with a possible replacement (and someone who we've been linked with in the past). I think no chance we'd be interested in Christie otherwise. Now if that club was Celtic and its actually because he wants to return to Scotland that does change things, another Prem club and I think Saints refuse anything but a silly offer. Hope not though, been excellent for us and we need to retain the experience in the squad.

Saints Need To Make Four Changes For The Manchester United Game
at 08:18:23

I'd have no issue with all 4 coming back in, but as it now appears McCarthy is 1st choice and will be signing an extension according to the echo, he will start. Cant see any formation change either.

Just want us to compete over the 90, with everyone on the pitch putting in a shift. Utd have the talent to win this comfortably even if all our players put in 10/10 performances but would be great to see us make them work bloody hard for it.

Southampton At Everton The Verdict
at 11:07:59

Aside from the team going to sleep at the start of the second half again (Stephens and Salisu at fault in my opinion) you have to question Ralph's subs. The starting XI looked a little risky before the game but without a doubt paid off in the first half, an excellent performance. BUT when you start with 2 CM's who by Ralph's own admission weren't fully fit you know before the game you're going to need to replace 1 of them at least from about the 60min mark. Same goes for Tino, playing his first prem game ever. I'm not sure Walcott has played a full 90 min either for us. So you surely know that whatever is happening in the game you've got to make at least 2 of those changes midway through the second half. I'm not saying for one moment we would therefore have got something from the match, but Everton were poor and were there for the taking. At 1-1 we'd got back into the game, earlier changes may well have shored things up but also tipped the balance in our favour.

Forget Full Backs It's A Central Defender We Need !
at 11:42:37

"to be blunt our central defence has been our problem for three years now due to poor recruitment, lack of recruitment and a reliance on players at the club who may be good club men but are not good enough at the level we aspire to ."

Agree - but if we can't find an improvement on what we have in this window then no point bringing in a body for the sake of it. A decent right back would be welcome.

Barren Transfer Window Doesn't Mean Disaster For Saints
at 10:44:02

Given the mess of the last few windows and the players out on loan plus Forster not even making the squad its not surprising. Ralph was clear from the start that they want players for the long term so we were never going to panic buy. No doubt they'll go back for the lad from Genk in the summer, but the priority will again be trying to shift the expensive dead wood.

Saints V Brighton The Verdict
at 11:08:12

The team selection and tactics set the tone of the game and he should receive no praise whatsoever for changing it at half time. We should have had an attacking 11 that came out of the blocks and hit them hard. It's what Adkins, Poch or Koeman would have done... it was what I thought was part of the dna of the club in recent years.. The regression over the last 18 months is unbelievable. IF there was any leadership at the club then he would have been moved on before now. As he's still here this morning I assume he'll be in place for WBA where surely only a win can save him (but this has been said for months now). Winnable games are rapidly running out.

"Pellegrino’s Position Is Now Under Considerable Scrutiny "
at 18:41:19

Last weeks article was the first hint, this is an escalation of it. It surely means the club are actively looking for a replacement. Not many names leap to mind that realistically the club would go for or would want to come here though. Stoke have just proved how difficult it is. If by some miracle they have someone ready to join, then immediately post Spurs would seem sensible (assuming the inevitable defeat occurs).

Saints V Sparta Prague The Verdict
at 09:44:22

Martina is a limited player, but is a great athlete and showed the right attitude last night. Not my MOM as he pulled out of too many challenges, particularly first half which could have led to problems. Van Dijk and Romeu were key players, held it all together well. I can't remember a better performance from a Saints side after so many changes from the previous game. Thought the opposition were very limited though going forward. Well set up but showed no positivity in the final third.

Tweets from journalists with the team in Austria have suggested no interest from Saints. Expect him to sign next week then.... But I'd be surprised if he did, they'll want a mobile centre half like Toby.

Saints Not Expecting Permanent Signings In January
at 15:17:38

Sensible, in the main we need short term cover and unless a player who we want on a perm deal is available at a knock down price why pay over the odds now? Think we'll go for Ings in the summer but almost zero chance of Burnley even considering selling in Jan, so we wait.

Glad Elia is only a loan option as well, looks risky on paper, gives us a chance to assess and see how he fits in.

Pelle Ban Might Give Saints Unexpected Impetus

Can Saints Put Out A Competitive Team Against Manchester United
at 11:58:00

You're right Nick and Utd are not the same team they were then either. This is a winnable game, we matched Arsenal last night and no reason why we can't take Utd even with injuries to key players. It looks to me like the top 2 will ease away from the rest over the remainder of the season, think it will be a lot closer in the pack behind them compared with previous seasons.

Can Saints Put Out A Competitive Team Against Manchester United
at 11:16:52

Think you're right Nick about the back 4 and in midfield Davis will surely drop back. Reed could well come in for him though and play the more advanced role which he's used to. Tadic, Long and Pelle up front, with Mane as the option off the bench.

Saints At Arsenal The Verdict
at 10:49:29

Personally I prefer to have faith in Koeman's judgement of our squad so decisions re not bringing on Gardos and Reed are no doubt the right ones. Seems to be a lack of knowledge over the midfield role Reed plays in as well. Also, it was clear on Sunday that they had pre-planned what to do should the circumstance arise re injuries to defensive midfield, further evidence of the good management at the club.

Any club, even the big boys are going to have problems when 2/3 players in the same position get injured, so we're definitely unlucky there and there will need to be a reshuffle tactically I expect to deal with it. Another test for Koeman.

Paul Heaton Gives The Balanced View Of The Ched Evans Issue
at 16:07:05

Of course its about football..if it were a Saints player we'd all be discussing it. If Saints were ever in this situation I'd expect them to point blank refuse to even consider taking the player back no matter what injustice the player felt. Its what Utd should have done, instead its a story that drags on and on with no winners.

Ramirez Coul be Off To Spain
at 12:39:33

All this nonsense about who signed who is simply designed to fit facts to an argument, usually an anti Reed or Cortese one... dull and pointless.

As for Ramirez, he has never looked like he could last 90 mins regularly in the Prem, why keep a player who could only be relied on for 60 mins at best and that's when he's available, missed too many games through injury or internationals? If there is a deal on the table that works for club and player then get it done. Sure on his day he is a talent but the negatives outweigh the positives. Koemans post match comments said it all on Weds, he didn't want to risk Ramirez until we got the second goal. Talented but ultimately a liability.
