Not sure how the subs were bizarre. Field back from injury replaced by Varane. Lloyd injured replaced by Bennie who at least put himself about. Anderson replaced by Morgan Yang replaced by Dembele Pretty much all like for like, I dont think we can blame Cifuentes that Morgan and Varane were so off it. What else was he to do, bring on Madsen for Anderson? Throw Sutton kid on for a debut in a must not lose game into a nervy team playing poorly ahead of Dembele |
 | Forum Reply | Well that was bloody awful! at 20:40 5 Apr 2025
I think its a bit unfair on the back 4 and particularly the centre backs who had very good games Nardi did not have to make a save |
 | Forum Reply | Dembele has had a free ride this season at 20:30 5 Apr 2025
I think he is being given too much of a free role attacking wise and therefore is not getting into positions where he can hurt the opposition. Needs more direction from the manager IMHO |

I've seen a couple of people say Smyth had a good first half, I thought he was way below his best, on his heels a lot and his decision making was terrible, had an easy pullback to Anderson to create a 1 on 1 and overplayed, should have been on the end of Lloyds ball across the face of the goal for an easy tap in but was on his heels. He had a good shot, I'll give him that, but Smyth on form is a much better team player and was guilty of poor decision making and poor positioning both offensively and defensively. I thought he was much better 2nd half except for the 10 minuted on the left. |

Very very nervy performance, all these "performance coaches" and we dont seem to have a Sports psychologist. 1st half thought the back 4 did well as did the middle 2. Lloyd did very well but the three attacking midfielders were terrible. Smyth totally did my head in, got into a great position only had to do a simple cut back. to Anderson overplayed and lost the ball, then Lloyd did a fantastic bit of work put the ball across the face of the goal and if Smyth had been where he should have been a simple tap in. 2nd half it all fell apart a bit after the subs. I thought Bennie did alright up top, occupied them made some good runs etc. We had little joy down the left all game their right back was very good snuffed out Yang and then when Smyth went over there we were even worse and I think we learnt that Smyth is not very effective on the left. Morgan and Varane were both terrible. I think young Kieran probably needs to go back to the 21s for a bit I'd like to see Alfie Tuck given a shot. Nardi's distribution and decision making was really poor again and nearly cost us a goal late on coming for a cross he had no chance of getting. I'm really unconvinced by Dembele, I think the manager needs to give him a clear defined role rather than a free one because I just dont see what he brings to the party other than the corners MOTM for me easily between the two centre half's who were head and shoulders our best players. Look you can't fault the effort of the players today and we might have to grind out some scrappy draws we all know we have huge problems in midfield, very little attacking threat and no strikers [Post edited 5 Apr 20:20]

It was either play him first 45 or send 45. I think the mistake here was to go for the 2nd 45. Anyway the problem was the midfield and the back 5 |

Name another manager that could have got a tune out of yesterdays squad given we lost our only fit striker less than 24 hours before the game. Our last turn around came with Kolli's introduction we need that kind of moment and we need Sam Field back |

Have to question the sheer number of Hamstring injuries. I appreciate this is a an upward trend across football, but who has not had a Hamstring injury this year is a shorter list than who has |

Watched on a stream. Nardi - Seems to have escaped criticism but has had a really poor couple of months in my view, decision making with and without the ball was terrible yesterday. Paal - Another one of his phone it in performances especially first half Fox - Absolutely terrible at the back, the manager has put a lot of faith in him and he has done well at times but was rank yesterday, showed zero infield leadership Edwards - One of the only players who could pick his head up high, was better than Varane in the holding position 2nd half Dunne - Poor and leggy at least tries, but whoever was in front of him did not help Varane - At his worst especially off the ball Colback - Seems to have got a free pass in the ratings, his first half performance and effort was a disgrace, failed to track back on numerous occasions including goals Morgan - Form and belief has fallen of a cliff Anderson - I get why he was picked as I thought he did ok at Leeds, but legs have gone, no idea why he played on the left when Smyth could have done it. Was shredded and gave Paal no protection Smyth - Gave us nothing other than the long throws, another who seemed leggy after the break Dembele - Maybe he will shine in a better team and fully fit, I worry he is a playground footballer, a player without a position, the one time he got through the shot was pathetic Lloyd - Made a huge difference at least gave energy and some threat. Should have played the first 45 minutes not the 2nd Madsen - Started better and then reverted to type. He has the demenour of someone who to put it politely is really struggling with mental health issues. Yang - Had a real impact great goal Marti - Rightly angry, his leaders did not lead, his creators did not create. He has to look at himself and ask whether he needs to be more pragmatic, but oh what an appalling hand he has been dealt at the moment: 4 Unfit strikers Both left wingers out Signings unsuitable for the division Colback and Anderson legs have gone Nardi, Smyth, Varane, Morgan, Dembele the only starters who are contracted to be here next year and have skin in the game. |

tbh Unless we were getting promoted or playoffs I've never expected him to be here beyond this season anyway and I would suspect if he does and we do go well he will be poached anyway. Would also be the case if I was Dunne for example I would be waiting to see if Marti is staying before committing to a contract. In terms of the comments they can mean anything, we know Smyth and Cook are still carrying injuries, he's got no forwards, no centre mids. When we have had a full squad we've done well. There could be issues with certain players behind the scenes that we will never know or will only come out in years to come |

Not when its 3 v 2, when Field plays LCM he will come across, Colback did it better in the last 20 minutes of the game than he had been doing earlier |
 | Forum Thread | Steve Cook... at 13:01 16 Mar 2025
...aint fit. There has been some speculation about this, but I think for the 3rd game now he has come off in the 60th minute and clearly must be playing with injections. 2nd half yesterday it was really noticeable you could see in his running gait and jumping from about minute 50 on that he is carrying and putting more weight on the other leg. Really not sure who this is benefiting. Granted yesterday his best game since returning but we can play Morrison there, and have a fully fit Cook for the last few games |

Not sure I agree, time and time again Leeds got in down our left and 3 v 2 with Colback late to the party with him being the LCM. I think he had a very good last 20 minutes mind you |

Agree with most on this thread a really good disciplined effort and probably a lot you could not see if you were watching on the video. At the time I thought the goal was offside (as did the ref!) but having watched it back the linesman got it spot on. Same for the Saito sending off, he was diving to get the trip and take the yellow but his foot bounced of the turf so studs up on the back of the calf so its sadly a red, and I hope Paal has apologised for putting him that situation with his ridiculous free kick. Edwards I think MOTM, really good games from Smyth, Saito, Dunne, Frey and Anderson Other results have put has back in the relegation fight, but the worst fixtures are out of the way now bar Burnley. |

He did amazingly well to get there in the first place would class it as an unfortunate miss rather than a bad one |

Bags of enthusiasm, energy and a bit of pace. Touch, balance, heading and positioning / game intelligence well off. Really likeable lad making the best of what he has got, but is going to have to work doubly hard to make up for the lack of football education to be a late bloomer that rises above being a championship sub or league 1/2 level |

I would suggest we were the better team first half. In Frey and Kolli we have better strikers than we have had for years, but if you take them out it's very difficult to create clear cut chances. Yes we know Lloyd looks like he will trip over his laces, he can cause a bit of chaos, but his positioning and movement yesterday was really awful. There was one when Dunne won the ball headed it across the six yard box for a simple tap in and Lloyd was in front of the ball absolutely criminal. The movement of the strikers is a huge part of creating clear cut chances, it's why Dykes never seemed to get opportunities. Frey and Kolli both have that (Kolli in spades). As we have said for a number of seasons our 1st choice 11 or 15 is good enough but we dont have depth to cope with injuries especially to top 6 sides |
