 | Forum Reply | Sunderland v Swansea City : Match day thread UPDATED ** at 21:16 12 Apr 2025
I stated after the Plymouth game (see my Apr 10 posts, "Likely candidates for the Swans job") that the Sunderland game was " a crucial game for Sheehan". If Swans win, then his value goes up tremendously and more teams will be drawn in and become interested in doing their due diligence on him. We need to sign him now before a bigger club discusses a bigger offer for him than we can afford. I honestly believe we should've signed him after the Plymouth game and before this game. Now Swans may have to pay more money to sign him permanently due to other teams' interest in him. Management/board need to stop dithering and sign him now! |

I really do admire how he presents himself and how he conducts his interviews. 100% humility, putting others first. He speaks well. He really seems to inspire his charges, doesn't he. And, he's shown that he does his homework in preparing for games, and has multiple formations and gameplans. I do believe he's ready for the job full-time. |

I think the proverbial "bird in hand, two in the bush" phrase applies here. A lot of us here on this board say Sheehan is the "cheap" option. Well, right now he's the best option. He's in command of his locker room and has results to back his claim. |

Management/Board really need to weigh whether to offer Sheehan the job now as opposed to waiting until season's end. A lot of "what ifs": 1. What if Sheehan's team continues to win, because if streak continues then his value will surely continue to rise, therefore his contract becomes more expensive?; 2. What if he continues to win games, impresses not only us fans, management, board members, but also other clubs?; 3. And the least likely, what if he falls on his face from now until season's end? I think the @ Sunderland game will be a crucial game for Sheehan. If he wins, then other clubs will chase after him. Could a positive Saturday result mean that Management/Board may lose the great opportunity to keep him for next year? Need to sign him now before it's too late. |

Thanks, Keith! Will read it now. |

If not mistaken, I think Keith said that Swansea Independent was going to be doing an update on all of Swans loan players. I'm excited to say that loaned player, Glory Nzingo, currently with the MLS Next Pro team, Carolina Core, came on as a substitute & scored his 1st goal in his 2nd appearance for CCFC (1st appearance was as a 2nd half substitute in their 1-2 loss in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup last week). He also recorded an assist in CCFC's 5-0 win over NYCFC II in their season home-opener this past Saturday, Apr 5. Approximately 4,400 fans were on hand, including my son & me. CCFC was named the Team of MatchWeek 4. My son, who played collegiate soccer & personally knows the club's owners, says CCFC, owners & management, really like Nzingo. After 3 games, CCFC's record is 1-1-1, and is currently in 7th place in the Eastern Conference of MLS Next Pro with a game in-hand. Glad to have a little bit of Swansea football here in North Carolina! |

Due to add-ons? |

I agree but a lot of "Ogbeta" type signings are also the fault of the player and player's agent. If I were a player/player's agent, I would certainly want a meeting with the manager of the football team before I sign the dotted line in order to find out where I stand in with the manager, who ultimately decides who gets to play or dress out for each game. A lot of these players want the money without realizing that the manager doesn't want them. Martin was the worst primadonna manager I've seen play out in these types of scenarios in a major program. |

Agree with some of your points. VAR & Pep-style football mimickers are big culprits. Interesting comments from Spur's Postecoglou re: VAR. There's a lot of truth in what he's saying about VAR. Clear & egregious errors only that can be quickly determined (less than 30 seconds), please! Decisions taking two minutes or more is ruining the game! |

I think the obvious thing to do (and will be done) is to continue with Sheehan until the end of the season. AC is staying on as chairman until then, so I don't think any major surgery is needed on the manager end, provided Sheehan gets a couple more wins. It will be a lot easier to bring in a new manager in June and sell his story to the team and fans, if Sheehan's not up to doing the job. I will say that Sheehan seems to be getting a tune out of his players, though. |

I would like to see Sheehan be named interim for the balance of the season. Just a longer look to see if over next 9 games that he has what most are looking for. The players seem to be playing better. Plus, his post-game interviews are coherent and much better than LW's! |

Great article, JB! Very well-written and really good synopsis of the last month or two with Williams in charge. I don't really blame Grimes' decision to leave but do blame his timing, waiting until the last couple of days of the Jan Window. However, kudos to Swans management in signing O'Brien. His presence has been an upgrade & Swans have shown vast improvement, especially since Williams' departure. Someone posed a question, "Is Swans' improvement due to departure of Williams and apppointment of Sheehan, or is it because of O'Brien's on-field play? I would say it's probably a combination of both. |

I believe you're correct on both accounts. I don't recall Sheehan being present at either of these events. I think Watson got burned for the "coincidence" comment. |
 | Forum Reply | π΄ Likely candidates for the Swans job at 18:35 5 Mar 2025
If memory serves me correctly, was it due to Watson's appearance in sitting with N. Jones at Cardiff Stadium during a boo-bird match? I don't think Sheehan was included in that setting, was he? I may not have all the info correct here, so please correct me if I'm wrong. |
