Saints V Watford The Preview
at 19:20:48

Tough choice for MP.... cant pick up any injuries b4 wednesday night but cant afford a defeat with this small momentum we have, might turn the crowd again and we are back to square 1.
If we do change the defence, then I feel we should go with AM... need a keeper behind the back 4 that has got some confidence from his recent run... not sure FF behind a makeshift back 4 is a sensible option. Play Maya at CB +1( save Wes and JS for the Glenn Murray treatment on wed )
Midfield has to include SD with ML for me... when ML and OR play together it seems to affect OR game.... PEH has been our best mid for a few games now and definetly save for Wed.
Up top... not sure what the value of playing MG if we are not going to play to his strengths... he is more suited to clever 10 feeding him in ,not as a target man.
Decisions Decisions all over the park...

Saints V Crystal Palace The Verdict
at 10:49:50

A good sign that we can win 2-0 whilst still not playing to our best, particularly in the attacking third. Not sure what the answer is wrt RL & DO, but have to disagree that Osvaldo was "star of the show"...he had a good game, but cant remember much link up with RL in the first half to create clear chances. The stars of the match IMO was JF and DL, these two seem to have forged a great partnership at the back and they also seem to help/gel with AB, who is now playing the best he has since his arrival.
One concern for me is how playing VW in the anchor role has seemed to affect MS, he doesnt seem to be controlling the game like last season, is this due to VW in the anchor role??
But a very good result to get points on the board early in the season, unlike last year at the same time....but there again, it was a fixtures list from hell last season, so might not good to compare..

Saints Player Of The Year - The Candidates
at 09:09:44

Morgan for me....his ability stood out down in League 1 and now he is getting the recognition his play deserves. I also like the fact that he is starting to get forward a bit more this season, and is now chipping with a few more goals than in previous years.
Honourable mentions to Jack Cork (great partnership with MS, and timely return from injury), Maya Yoshida (Has put in a good consistent shift this season) Steve Davis (unsung member of our hard working midfield trio), and of course, Sir Rickie Lambert, who should have been selected for the English National Team this season, and once again, Goals, hard work and team Talisman.
MS for POTY...

Saints V Reading The Verdict
at 09:33:36

Good match report Nick, and a good performance from the Saints...winning without really getting into top gear, is that not the sign of a good team??
Once again, Steve Davis put in a quality shift and but MoM has to be J-Rod, he seems to have a bit more licence to link up with SRL than early in the season when he was stuck out on the left wing, and this is creating a very good partnership.
Concentrate on one game at a time, to get mathematically safe, so a good win vs Big Sam and his Hoofers will go down a treat... COYRs

Saints At Newcastle The Verdict
at 23:36:29

good Pix frm Slynch wrt 4th and decisive goal....dont like to appoint blame, but I reckon this goal was avoidable with a simple RIGHT foot clearence from Fox...it always amazes me that a pro player can be so one footed....in this situation JH was not in a bad position, covering the 2 barcode forwards, whereas DF could have played the ball the ball with his right foot, even conceding a corner if needs be, allowing the defence to reset.
We have to learn frm this result and go out and smash QPR on saturday....and look to send the Sandbanks Judas back down to the CCC, swiftly followed by the financial ruin of QPR, which "would not be his fault".....

Saints V Manchester City The Verdict
at 09:33:23

Cant really add much to the comments above, WHAT A PERFORMANCE...!!!!
Hard to pick out individuals, but MY and JH were outstanding at the back....Dzeko is 6'27" and hardly won a thing in the air vs JH, and then there is the calm that is MY..Maya also showed a good turn of speed a few times when City tried to play over the top. And our midfield seems a lot more balanced with SD in there, deserved his goal. He is vital if we are to keep playing the high tempo and high pressing game (credit to the Fitness staff)
The only negative points...worst Ref we have seen this season at SMS...And How and Why is SRL not in the England squad, esp for last weeks friendly!!
One very happy Saints fan today...COYR

Saints V Everton The Verdict
at 10:49:26

Probably a good point after the weekends events, with both the Fans and the Players focusing on the important thing being Southampton Football Club. Could have been 3 points with one of the best first half displays this season. A combination stamdard of finishing and good goalkeeping from Tim Howard kept the scores level when we could and probably should have been 3 up....but I disagree with you Nick wrt the second half when I thought Everton changed their pattern of play and went more direct particularly when Anichebe was brought on in place of the injured Coleman. He seemed to be able to turn and run off MY too easily and we seemed to allow Baines to come into the match during this period. I would have liked to see either Chaplow or Richardson brought on instead of J-Rod to help NC over on the right flank....
But the break in play helped us as it seemed to break the Toffees flow, and we finished the stronger side.
So a good point which keeps the momentum gathering points, and now the MP will have a good few days to pass across his ideas to the players. The Wigan game will be another big 6 pointer for us..

Nigel Adkins A Thank You From The Fans
at 10:00:05

Great post frm London Saint yesterday that almost carbon copied my thoughts....
Surprised at the timing of this decision when it is so important to still be in the EPL come May, not sure how being back in the championship works in the "long term plan"
A lot of positives about MP on the tv and radio yesterday, esp Guihem Ballague on SSN, and I hope he does bring his talents to the squad from day one.
Also, cant believe some of the comments about hoping we get relegated now.....esp Paul Merson on SSN, what a statement to make wrt the players and fans from a so called Ex-Professional....classless!!!!!
Would like to say a massive Thank You to NA for the last few seasons, I have to be honest and say I was never 100% behind him, esp on some team selections and tactics, BUT he did get results, and APR 28th 2012 will always be up there as an amazing and emotional day......Good luck Nigel.

Saints V Chelsea The Verdict

Agree with StMichael.....SRL & GR were not rested as the media seemed desperate to imply...good tactical choice for the first half to ensure we were still in the match in the second half, JRod gives us more movement up top when playing a lone striker, although was a wee bit worried when the second goal went in, avoidable with better defending.
Another good showing frm LS, who seems to have made huge strides during the last few games, and also AB, who now seems to be getting match fit and could possibly solve our GK snag (good vision NA??)
One thing about the FORREN deal, radio solent said that he was in the stands watching last night, but when NA was questioned about him, we got the standard "no comment".......bit strange if he was sat watching us, was hoping to see some positive news today on that transfer...quite a good read on him... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/scouting-report-how-will-norwegian-s

Saints Could Be Four Wins From Safety
at 09:41:50

4 wins for safety, I wish it was that clear cut!!!lol
Looking at our fixtures, that is possible, but would like to see us start sneaking a few points against the big boys, would make our run in a lot easier. This is needed as the other teams down with us seem to be able to get the unexpected result.
I would like us to go to Chelski tonight and pack the midfield with battlers...try and sneak a point. I would like to see Fox at LM to support Luke Shaw if he is fit, and also Steven Davis at RM to offer the same support to Clyne....
Like the idea of 4-4-1-1, with GR and J-Rod up top to play on the break. SRL on the bench for the final 15 mins impact sub as per Maine Rd.
A point up at Stamford Bridge would be a massive point.

Saints At Aston Villa The Verdict
at 09:31:49

A massive 3 pts in the battle to stay up, and as has been mentioned, it might have been an "ugly" 3 pts, but that is sometimes needed.
The win was achieved with a 4-4-2 formation, which we seem happy playing. I feel that we brought players in the summer to suit that style and then changed to the new "modern" EPL formations, which didnt suit us.
Another good show from Shaw, who seems to be getting forward a bit more in recent weeks, just need to work on his delivery.
Also a better show from Boruc....although still not sure he is the answer for our GK situation, but just may have enough about him to keep us up.
Would like to see us go defensive up at Chelski, pack out the midfield and make us V hard to breakdown, and look to play on the break....

Time To Get Serious In Transfer Market
at 09:13:32

I hope it doesnt come down to a DANN / ASTORI choice, not sure either are what we require at the moment. Dann has not got the a good record wrt injuries and also 2 relegations on his CV, and as I mentioned earlier, I have nagging feeling that Astori is looking for money first. Was hoping also that we would have had someone in by the Villa game, but have faith NA will come up with something!!!

Time To Get Serious In Transfer Market
at 09:47:08

Not sure about this latest "Italian Job".....do we really need to spend close to 20M on DA and PC??? The need for a Good CB is well stated, although agree with earlier StSaint comment wrt him actually wanting to come to the Saints, already getting another football mercenary in the offing. IMO it should be a Prem league CB we spend on, Dawson, Upson, Hangeland, or Samba might all be possible targets, and all would know what is needed to help us stay in the EPL.
As for Coutinho...very exciting prospect on paper, but maybe Matt Phillips at 2/3 price would be less of a risk?? wouldnt mind seeing Aaron Ramsey on loan til the end of the season, utilise this so called "special relationship" with Arsenal, which always seem to be a one way relationship (they have jst sent Djourou out on loan, might have done a job for us)

Saints V Reading The Verdict
at 10:53:13

A vital and well deserved win on Saturday, with all players contributing to the 3 pts. Quite a few mentions on here about reasons for the improvements over the past few games, IMO, its been down to the inclusion of Cork and Shaw.
Cork, has given the defence the screen required for the defence whilst JF and Maya develop their partnership. LS has also lived up to his hype, solid in tackle and good range of passing, this lad must be older than his passport states!!!
Wrt Jay Tabb, was it just me or did he look like a wee Subbuteo player out on the pitch?
And what was Alan Shearer smoking on MOTD on saturday night...after he claimed to have single handedly sorted out Fernando Torres and his goal drought, he then claimed the Saints "probably jst about shaded the game" !!!

Saints V Fulham The Verdict
at 10:12:21

Disappointing end to a game that we should have taken all 3 pts. We should have had the game put away by half time, but seemed to struggle when Fulham put us under pressure in the second half.
IMO, could understand RC coming on to give MY more cover, looked like MY was carrying a knock. But would have thought BR would have been a better switch for SRL, to allow AL to come inside and give DF cover, with both goals coming from an overload down our left side.
Also, I am sure that Clattenburg disallowed the JP goal for SRL climbing all over the Fulham guy at the back post, MotD didnt show the ref, but Clattenberg seemed to gesture that...
Positives - MS and SD in the middle of the park, JF seems to have stepped up his game since MY arrival, and the chances created in the first half....
