It’s a sign that this club is perhaps becoming more focused and forward thinking. I can remember in the 60’s and 70’s, good players, players you loved at the club, evolving into something that was good but being gradually replaced by something better, a footballing osmosis. The Morgan twins, Marsh, none of it made a lot of sense at the time. It did later. |

Sounds like the loan is tied directly into Norwich buying Field in the summer, probably an FFP thing. Done us proud for four years, good luck to him. |

Lovely report and thoroughly enjoyable game. If Vale is fit, he has to play in that position, week after week. A good spine is critical irrespective of a few dodgy results here and there. Cook, Dunne, Hayden, Vale, Kone is that spine. Possession may say otherwise but for the first time in a long while, we controlled that game. |

Yeah, possession stats in the oppositions half would be worthwhile, overall possession can be rendered meaningless if it’s all in your own half. Been mentioned earlier here that 3 of the top 4 have good overall possession stats, so it’s not all baloney. In the end Coventry will go up because of this, they may have struggled against us but the way they moved the ball would beat most sides. Think we have a sort of hot potato possession but there are signs occasionally that we can break that mould. |

We’d be lucky to get JCS play a three game year. |

I’m amazed that refs who know the Championship still give any free kicks when Smyth goes down. It’s got to the point where he’s on his way down before the full back even gets there. As teams get bigger and stronger it’s noticeable that he struggles to get away from them now and dropping to the floor has become plan A to hang onto the ball. Strikes me he now plays as our most forward defender. Gives his all and love him for that but where’s the end product? |

It’s funny that, if you play players in their best position, they tend to play a lot better than when they’re played out of position. That was where Vale should play, he was excellent. That was where Kone should play, he was excellent. Those two playing where they should play, with Hayden sweeping up, allowed Madsen to have a bit of a wander and guess what, you get a perfect pass into the box the centre forward so rarely receives. We look only Chair and a right winger short of a team that might even win games in possession. Imagine that. |

Made a decent side look ordinary, much like last week but this time with us winning. Hard to fault any of ours. Was screaming near post near post and Kone left it to exactly the right moment to go and brilliant finish. That’s what he can do when someone gets behind the defence, typical it needed Madsen to do it and not one of our wingers. Vale was outstanding, as was Hayden. Madsen, different class. Defence barely put a foot wrong and Bennie grew into the game. Was interesting to see a less skilful but strong player out on the right, him attacking everything gave us a different dimension. Only sad part was once again witnessing one of our tiny widemen struggling with the physicality of this level and leaving the field. This strategy will cost us this season, needs a rethink in the summer. |

Imagine if Eustace was here, filling the team with established old pros, he’d probably have been run out of town by now. |

Fair question. Regards the first of those last two paragraphs, E17 has already spelt out himself the 5 ‘core metrics’ (kill me now for reiterating management speak) so it seems he’s answered his own question. The last one just seems a bit cheeky and, at this stage, a little unnecessary. It’s not as if his tenure has been worse than the previous ten years of lower half football and regular relegation battles. Give the man a chance. I’m not entirely convinced, it’s becoming evident that the Warnock style, build a side around good established old pros, aka Derby County, may be a less leaky boat than one built around novices, but nevertheless, Nourry has been in the job a very short time and deserves an opportunity to get it right given the club has largely struggled for 30 years now. |

Have to say, if I was CEO and somebody outside the organisation came at me with those two questions, the simple answer would be ‘do one’. The ground question though, that really does need an update. |

It doesn’t help, but you have my utmost sympathy, it’s a disgrace that you can lose your licence for driving at a speed below all legal limits under the rules virtually all of us learned and earned our driving licences. Fair enough around schools but, as ever, they take our understanding as a green light to extend their rules everywhere. I wish every uber, taxi, chauffeur would tell Khan and his ilk to get out of my vehicle and jog on, literally. |

Labour costs, exactly. We’re paying these players a wage irrespective of a transfer fee, for the club I can’t see how this makes sense as none of them seem to make it. Know I’m coloured by the Ned Zelic fiasco but have we ever had an Australian saleable asset at this club, never. And no, Luongo does not count. |

Well given what was about to occur, I was thinking if I was in his boots, multi millionaire at 30, great career enhanced by a club that took me on, taught me what I needed to know and ended up never actually playing for them, I might want to repay them by seeing if I could spend a paltry three months helping them eradicate that four point difference and maybe propel them to the promised land of similar wealth. Yes, I know, but I can dream can’t I ? 😂 |
 | Forum Reply | Raheem Sterling at 09:23 28 Jan 2026
Fitter still though than most of our wingers. Chelsea paying him £325k a week to do nothing since May 24, can’t they lend him to us for three months just to see if he can prove himself worth a buyer? |

Since Nourry came in, it does feel like we have some direction. For a man who likes a data base, he might find a quick look at the squad ratings could be the key to success. All the players averaging over 5.7 are big solid bastards aside of Mr Chair who’s a little solid bastard. Insert the words ‘solid’ and ‘bastard’ into his algorithm and all his dreams can come true. |

Agree with you. On the tv it does look saveable but tv tends to somehow take the speed out of the ball, at the ground it was bullet like, only needs a tiny bit of movement and a keeper stands no chance. In the end, that wouldn’t have come to pass if he’d made what should have been an elementary catch or at worst, a decent punch, for their equaliser. |
