Think you’re being too kind to him - brief cameos against Luton and Oxford - two of the poorer sides in the division make him a long way off being a really useful player in my opinion. Nothing to do with the state of the team all to do with his lack of impact when given. The opportunity
Problem is 20 minutes out of a season says it all really and against probably one of the worst two teams in the division. Looked an interesting recruit when signed albeit competing in a much lower standard. Unfortunately hasn’t cut the mustard - youngsters that have come in because of injuries have had much more of an impact. If you don’t put yourself about you have to have the ability that lets you get away with that unfortunately he doesn’t - not his fault we spent so much on him but think they will try to unload him in the summer.
Agree with you - a little more confident but not home and dry- on the player take but a little harsh on Bennie - playing out of position and up against the normal physical championship centre backs. Unfortunately either says a lot about our injury situation or that Marti doesn’t think much of the others - hopefully Kolli. will be available next game - with Saito and Dembele playing their part too but it is how lightweight we are up front that worries me the most.
Agreed. To have so many ball players in the side is great but you also need players that will get dirty and take one for the team. All those three have taken stick for the number of bookings they’ve had yet when not there our other midfield players are over run. Field went off yesterday and in my opinion even in that short time we became too lightweight again and boy did we need that finish from Yang to settle the nerves.
Whoever was responsible for the strategy of only having two strikers at the start of the season has to take a lot of responsibility for the position we are in. Neither Frey or Celar have set the world alight even allowing for the injuries they’ve both had. It has led to too much responsibility falling on the shoulders of youngsters still learning their trade. The second contender for the biggest mistake was whoever sanctioned spending the sort of money we did on Madsen - I just do not see what he brings to the table. If yesterday was a good performance from him it shows the low level that he has performed to the rest of the time. A wins a win but Oxford were poor - we still have a lot to do.
Varane and Frey both justify their positions - the wide men and Chair benefit from his style of play but he does not score enough to be the main striker . Madsen is the one that so far has shown very little.
Still think we need to bring in a striker. Frey gets injured and too much will be put on the youngsters shoulders. They both have potential but it is not out of the question that two out of the three could be injured at the same time and we are still not safe.
Willesden Working men’s club Villiers Road - then Welwyn Garden City Trades and Labour Club ( now gone) and now Stevenage C I U - and pass card to enter all other associated clubs nationwide. Good value for money still.
Agreed - nonsense that goals are chalked off for accidental handball but if you are going to introduce that rule it should also apply to defenders every handball whether intentional or not is given against the defender. Accidental is the same whether you be an attacker or a defender.
His presence was essential against a side like Watford - he stopped our attack from being bullied out of the game - we have missed his physical presence since his injury when we play big defenders. That said it shows our current weakness up front that he is probably the best we have.
He’s improving and although his cross led to Fields goal his final pass still needs to be more consistent and so does his finishing. His pace causes defences problems but still not sure he’s the answer.
Thought he done well enough today. Watford are a physical side and I thought he stood his ground, Won the ball a number of times and found someone in a hopped shirt. Alongside Field they held their own.
