Got my tickets this morning, so just a heads up for anyone still undecided, it's looking like it's going to be close to a sell out. Just a handful left in the East stand, most of the West stand close to sold out, and likewise S2 and S4. Should be a cracking atmosphere.
I remember Clinton Morrison and a few other players who travelled but weren’t in the squad join the U’s supporters in our final game at Carlisle in the season we dodged relegation. Not quite the same thing, but still appreciated. Pretty sure I remember a group including Todd Miller do likewise, just can’t remember what the game was.
I saw that on twitter, and Tchamadeu and Gillespie(?) were at a recent game too - gives me a warm fuzzy feeling that we must be doing something right if former players old and new are still prepared to turn up to support the team. Good things will come, of that I'm certain.
On balance, a great afternoon. The U’s showed on their day they can compete with the best in the league, Chesterfield deservedly won the National League title, and piss poor Donny finally overcame more piss poor FGR - I’ll take that!
Edit - the BBC report says it all.
Goodman's heroics - notably a breathtaking stop to keep out Baily Cargill's powerful point-blank header - did not tell the whole story, with the U's creating numerous late chances in an increasingly open finale.
Truly inspirational write-up Durham, magnificent stuff, and you're right, DC should have Winston's words nailed to the Field Mill dressing room. The early kick-off realistically put the kybosh on me traveling to Mansfield, so instead, I'm on a double header that I think at least Gerry will appreciate.
I'm off to Salisbury to join my Spireite mate Craig to watch the U's put a dent in the Scab's promotion ambitions, followed by confirmation of the inevitable promotion of Chesterfield as champions back to the EFL, live on TNT Sports against Boreham Wood. If we all do our jobs, I guarantee both results will be celebrated equally loudly throughout Derbyshire, Essex, and even in a small corner of Wiltshire too.

“It’s what they like to wear” - seriously, give your head a wobble TOOT. Perhaps, and let’s just throw this out there as a concept, female footballers can choose to wear what the hell they like playing the game, rather than what men decide they should. Skirts - honestly?!
Exceptionally sad news, Make Me Smile was a seminal track of the 70s that has endured down through the ages - we even had it on our wedding playlist. I was always under the belief that it was written in a flat around the back of the (then) Colne Lodge, but never with any evidence to back it up, so Ms Freeman's account kind of rings true? I always thought he was an Old Gilberdian too, but there seems to be less evidence of that tbh.
RIP the original Cockney Rebel.
Always worth another listen, despite the sad occasion
Having had today to reflect, I think I quite enjoyed that game. A bit light on technical ability at times, but a decent performance from both sides who clearly had attacking intent.
