TVOS Preview - Rochdale v York City
at 15:39 26 Mar 2025

Watched the match in a public space, so I had it on silent—and honestly, it was weird. It looked slow and static, almost like they were playing netball (you know, can't move with the ball).

That first goal? Pure laziness. No excuses. And before anyone says, “Well, it’s a lot of games”—we’re not exactly playing high-intensity, all-out attack football, are we?

What’s truly baffling is that just three games ago we looked sharp. Since Oldham, it’s like everything’s fallen off a cliff.

Never seen anything like it.

Your right about Henderson. It just my opinion but I am not sure he is best used coming off the bench with 10 minutes to go. Needs to start, then sub him, if needed

I distinctly remember being sent on a supply chain management course once. No idea why—SCM isn’t my thing. I suspect they just wanted us to appreciate how mind-bendingly complex it is. Mission accomplished. I left thinking, I never want to work in SCM.

The lecturer, a wily Irishman, kept repeating “the dichotomy”—this dichotomy, that dichotomy. At some point, I thought to myself, this is about as useful as calling something “a microcosm of life.” Completely pointless.

Which brings me to EEL—thought he slowed the game down, but his distribution was spot on. Will he get quicker? Was his accuracy a fluke? Can the keeper pull off what he did? Bit of a dichotomy for James…

Time to go Jim. The turning point
at 12:06 14 Mar 2025

I think the last three performances have shown a real transformation—better pressing from the front, controlled aggression in all part of the park; and a good mix of long and short balls, especially the third goal against Altrincham with that assist from the keeper. I've said before, performances will keep improving as the manager brings more quality into the side. It's a long-term project, and while I'm still not keen on the manager's communication style, results speak for themselves. Well done to the team and manager.

Keith's - Best manager in my time, I loved his post match comments. I don't even bother with Jim's or even BBS - too boring.

But I don't think Keith will manage a team again... I just don't think he enjoys it anymore.

So

Their commentators describes the game at the start as a 'dead rubber' both teams with nothing to play for. So season over gents... maybe explains the performance levels.

Their commentators said towards the end of the game (I kid you not)....... :

'and here come Rochdale, tip tapping around the box'

You’re absolutely right about Barrow, Eyre, and Stockdale—but let’s not forget Jim. He’s firmly part of this quartet, like the fourth member of a questionable boy band.

Jim has built a system, an ethos, The Rochdale Way™. Every year, the players will get better... theoretically. The only issue? At times, we play with all the urgency of a slug moving over peanut butter.

Let’s not forget—football is meant to be entertainment. It should spark passion, debate, and maybe even the occasional heart palpitation. Right now, watching Dale is like watching a nervous student try to boil a bucket of water with a single Bunsen burner. Slow. Painful.

Oh, and for anyone clutching their pitchforks: Jim’s on a long contract. So, unless he suddenly discovers gegenpressing in a dream, we’re stuck with him. Everyone just take a deep breath and embrace the mediocrity.

Why Do Managers See Different?
at 14:03 7 Feb 2025

I agree with you, but I think professional football people do see the game differently. I've lost track of the number of times opposing managers and pundits have praised our style of play and given Jim credit.

That said, like you, I think it’s clear within 5–10 minutes when a player is having an off day or when our tactic just isn’t working. If it were up to me, I’d have no hesitation in pulling a player off in the first half if they’re having a nightmare—like Rodney last night. Nothing personal, it’s just not your day.

Dagenham match thread

Ah, school English Lit—where joy went to die. First, Kes. Absolute drivel. Then, To Kill a Mockingbird—apparently a "microcosm of life." Microcosm this, microcosm that. When exactly was I meant to use that word, eh?

Fast forward: Our free kick. Overthought it, fancied ourselves as Barcelona/City, then—bang! Sucker punch. Well-taken goal, mind you. A perfect microcosm (ugh) of us: jolly hockey sticks, crumpets on the lawn, and Big Jim fanboys making excuses.

Reality check:

Better players than last year, sure.
We’ll finish higher. Probably 9th or 10th. Yay.
Great managers build great teams. Jim builds… systems.
Don’t expect cup runs—systems don’t win trophies.
Owners and CEO couldn’t care less what we think, so stop whining.

Buckle up. It’s going to be a long, dull slog. Still, it could be worse—they could make us read A Tale of Two Cities. But that’s a rant for another day.

Made me laugh though.

On the subject - Little Jim is on a 3 year deal and I don't see BA paying out compensation ..and why would James go there? I mean, would we all not want him to succeed at a bigger/higher club?

Ebbsfleet away match thread
at 18:14 6 Oct 2024

My wife came in and found me listening to some soothing pipe music. When she asked what was wrong, I showed her this thread. She looked at it and said, "Ah, the old 'divide and conquer' mentality still exists here."

At half-time, she referred to Rochdale as "we," and by the end, she related it back to your team, which says a lot.

In my opinion, we missed an opportunity. The players seemed to ease off, even if only slightly, but at this level, that’s enough to change the game. You need to be relentless. When your opponent is down, you have to finish the job—metaphorically speaking, of course.

I’m sure the manager will address this, because the game turned so quickly. But that’s football for you. I don’t think it was the referee, the injuries, or the manager’s decisions that caused the loss. I see it as a learning curve for the players, and hopefully, they’ll take this lesson forward and become more ruthless in future matches.

As for the injuries, it’s just an excuse. Ebbsfleet had seven first-team players out.
