ot sure I'm that keen on Koeman, better a younger manager IMO who can develop like MP. At a glance Koeman certainly has a glamorous CV but it can be argued has enjoyed limited success, particularly in recent years with Feyenoord in a less competitive league. He seems desperate for the job by using his agent in the media much like he did at Swansea who decided against him...

I can't believe how much higher my expectations are for a new manager after one season. I year ago I probably would have been happy with any half decent manager. Now it has to be someone that plays attacking and pressing football in the vein of Bielsa. It makes me feel very sorry for West Ham fans who pride themselves on good football and now have big Sam as a manager. I couldn't bear the thought of getting someone like McLaren or Moyes. Damn you MoPo for raising my expectations!!!

Where do the bookies/punters get the info that creates these odds? Or have Koeman and Krueger both put a million on?

SanMarco - I cant imagine 'The next saints manager" is a huge market - a bet of a few grand would likely change the odds ;-)

Lets face we all know very little about Koeman - apart from the fact he had a wicked shot on him and as a defender who scored a crap load of goals you'd have him in your fantasy footy team all day long :-)

However we can make some assumptions:

1. Dutch football is very technical and the focus is on player development - (The Australian FFA use it as the foundation for its blue print for footy, so I’m quite familiar with it) either way happy young players and this fits well with our academy approach - TICK.

2. He is a 'name' and well connected - This is both a statement of the clubs ambition (internally and externally) and improves our ability to attract seasoned talent which we can blend with our young talent. - TICK, TICK.

3. He has experience - There is talk about the Dutch league being inferior and his record being patchy, but this guy has won titles as a player and manager and managed big clubs in Holland, Spain and Portugal. You think he won’t know how to handle Lallana? - TICK

4. He wants a new challenge, we need a new 'project' - its a good fit - he'll want to prove himself in the premiership as long as his and the boards ambitions are aligned and agreed then we should get the energy and direction we're all after - TICK.

I'd be intrested if there are any feyenoord fans that could shed some real insight into the guys ego, management style, personality etc as that for me is the big unknown.

But lets face it we'd take RK now wouldnt we?

Well put Downunder, looking at all the candidates some good and bad points for all of them Young/Old, British/Foriegn, Experienced/notExp enough? the list goes on. I was originally liking the idea of Yakin (not that I really know much about him), but as well as Downunder's points, at this moment with a relatively inexperienced board Koeman does know his way round the transfer market and has should have a decent knowledge of players in Spanish and Dutch leagues at the very least and if loose any more that could well be handy and a possible few bargains could be unearthed. Lets look ahead positively.

Koeman is probably our man.

There's a lot of excellent young players coming through in Holland that are in and around the Dutch national team. Koeman will know them and would no doubt look to sign a few of the players below:

Luc Castaignos (FC Twente) Striker - Just the type of striker we need, but will probably sign for Swansea in the next few days

Memphis Depay (PSV) Winger - Potential replacement for Lallana

Jürgen Locadia (PSV) Striker - Potential replacement for Lambert

Luciano Narsingh (PSV) - Potential replacement for Lallana

Terence Kongolo (Feyenoord) Centre Back

Bruno Martins Indi (Feyenoord) Left Back

Joël Veltman (Ajax) Centre Back

Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord) Centre Back

Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV) Winger - Potential replacement for Lallana

Feels like a good fit. Well respected, good contacts etc. Liking the sound of that.

Did anyone see Quincy Promes play for the Dutch under 21 team against Scotland last week? He scored a hat trick in 20 mins and the kid looked like a world beater. If Koeman brings him along it would be nice.

Let's be honest, the bookies are rarely wrong (that is their business after all), so the fact they have so low odds on Koeman now does suggest it's 99% a done deal. I think he is a great manager and could open us up to some possible great transfers (not know to Les Reed)

The bloke taking over from Koeman said this few weeks ago.. In the past, Rutten has worked as head coach of FC Twente, PSV, Schalke 04 and Vitesse. In 2008 he was named coach of the year. He says he is ‘exceptionally happy’ to have the opportunity to work at Feyenoord. ‘The club has obviously done fantastically under Ronald Koeman in recent years. After some lean years they have built something up in Rotterdam, from both a financial and sporting perspective. The broadly shared ambition to continue on the successful path can be seen and felt in everything. I would like to contribute to that and I know I can,’ says Rutten in his first and for the time being only response he will be giving to the news of his appointment. ‘The next few weeks are too important for Feyenoord to keep talking about me. I don’t want to get in the way of Ronald Koeman and the squad or affect their concentration in any way. For that reason I will stay in the shadows for the time being.’

Most of us only know Koeman as a player and have little information about him as a manager/head coach, if he is on the short list for us.
