Frank De Boer Bookies Favourite To Replace Koeman
Tuesday, 14th Jun 2016 12:10

Frank De Boer is the man the bookies feel will replace Ronald Koeman according to the latest odds after Koeman departed St Mary's for Everton.

Frank De Boer is as low as 3/1 to be the next manager of Saints and he is followed by Eddie Howe on similar odds and then Andre Villas Boas and Manuel Pellegrini at around 8/1.

Then there are a plethora of candidates starting with David Moyes at 12/1.

Unai Emery still figures highly and although some bookies have him in single figures others have him at 20/1.

A good outside bet would be Murat Yakin formerly of Spartak Moscow at 33/1, he has the CV that Saints would be looking for and for those of you who are looking for a bet that could make you some money, this could be your man.

The reality is that for the bookies this is a fun bet and therefore they have priced the popular choices low to ensure that the masses don't take them for a fortune.

The betting suggests to me that there is no strong favourite. It makes it look like de Boer and Howe are well out in front but it is only when and if the insider money comes in that we may get a hint. Some people in Holland or insiders at Everton made money on Koeman because they knew the truth in advance of everyone else. In such unethical 'markets' I would keep my money in my pocket and watch for the sudden surge to 8 to 1 on once the insiders get the nod. The clue is (and this was the clue with Koeman) that those in the know keep betting even after the odds are rubbish. You only put money on at 4 to 1 on if you KNOW it is going to happen. I knew Koeman was going when he went from 4 to 1 on to 9 to 1 on in a few minutes.

Good points SM. The swing on Koeman was too big to dismiss out of hand. I'm personally surprised that betting on these markets is permitted. If an employee or someone in the know had a bet on something similar with a listed company they'd be thrown in jail. How the world of football is different when it comes to inside knowledge!

Going back to favourites, I'm Frank is now open to the move now Koeman has gone.

My mate made a fortune when Steve Staunton got the Ireland job because he got an inside tip. Went round all the bookies and put £50 quid on in each to avoid suspicion. He was 8 or 9 to one at the time. Nice work if you can get it.

After the last two managers Saints will not appoint another high profile foreign manager. This time they will want a man who if successful will want to stay longer than two seasons.

Despite what appears to have been previously said there is only one credible candidate who by coincidence happens to live locally and wants to keep his wife and family in the South.

Eddie Howe alledgedly refused the job once. He will only get one more chance and this is it.

not sure that a two year cycle with an upwardly mobile manager is such a bad thing. the last six years have been great - three good coaches fit for purpose. de boer - three year contract two years and move on with Saints in the champions league?
