Rochdale set to sign non-league striker Jake Beesley

Rochdale have today been linked with the signing of Solihull Moors striker Jake Beesley.

In another one of Fitzochris’ breaking news tweets, he told us the 23-year-old striker was due to sign for an undisclosed fee from the Midlands club.

Beesley is the son of former Leeds, Sheffield United and Wigan centre back Paul Beesley and looks set to leave Solihull despite only joining them permanently in January.

He started his footballing career at Chesterfield and played 7 league games for the Spirites in League One in the 2016/17 season. He did go out on loan to Shaw Lane where he scored 4 in 6 before leaving Chesterfield to join Salford in 2017. He scored 4 in 31 league games for Salford and had loan spells at Boston United and Bradford Park Avenue and it was for the latter that he had his best goalscoring spell to date, bagging 20 goals in 42 games during his loan spell.

He left Salford to join Solihull Moors in October last year, initially on loan where he scored 4 in 13 for the National League side and he made that move permanent in January but didn’t add to his goals tally in his next 10 games before the lockdown.

This is obviously a big step up for the striker, but an undisclosed fee suggests BBM has targeted Beesley and has high hopes for him, possibly in a similar way to Alex Newby who joined from Chorley this summer.
