CCF Rebooted: No.4 - Helio Andre
CCF Rebooted: No.4 - Helio Andre
Thursday, 14th Jan 2021 16:47 by AtThePeake

Former striker Helio Andre is more famous for his 2014 appearance on Crimewatch than he is for his short Dale career.

Position: Forward

Arrived from: Academy

Played : 2010

Appearances : 1

Goals : 0

Left for: Ashton United

Andre had seemed to be an exciting talent when breaking through the youth ranks at Dale and having enjoyed an exciting cameo in a pre-season friendly against rivals Bury, in which he was almost dismantled by an infuriated Phil Picken, hopes were high for him going into the 2010/2011 campaign.

However, the substitute appearance he made in the opening day win over Hartlepool United would prove to be his first and last league appearance for the club alongside 42 minutes in an EFL Trophy defeat to Port Vale in the same season.

In the end, the flashes we'd seen showed potential, but as he was rarely even afforded a spot on the bench throughout the campaign it came as no surprise when he was released at the end of the season.

It did however, come as a surprise when he featured on an episode of Crimewatch three years later, wanted by police in connection with a drugs probe.

His footballing career had taken in brief spells in non-league with Ashton United, Burscough and Cammell Laird prior to this.
