Cloughie's Statue - An Update
Wednesday, 5th May 2021 09:50 by Chaff

Thanks to Richard Wild, Francis Collins and Mark Cryer, we can bring you an update on the progress of the statue of David Clough.

A rare piece of positive news amongst all the rubbish is very much welcome I’m sure Dale fans would agree. Well, thanks to the executors of David Clough's will, Francis Collins and Richard Wild, along with Mark Cryer who set up the fundraising page for it, we have an update on the statue being erected for our very own "superfan" Cloughie.

Richard Wild said on facebook:

“I'm delighted to be able to share with you some progress on the statue of Cloughie. I received these images recently, which show the clay model which we have approved (the white part is a programme that will scaled down slightly). Cloughie will now be cast into bronze ready to be placed on his seat at Spotland ready for next season.
If you donated to this statue, a sincere thank you as it means the world to the people that knew the great man.”

Mark Cryer tweeted:

Richard recently mentioned on the RochdaleAFC.com Podcast (listen here if you haven’t already https://soundcloud.com/user-296512693/episode-41-winning-at-home-a-chat-with-ric that the statue will be put in place of Cloughie’s seat in the Main Stand in time for the start of next season.

It can never be doubted that the most important thing about a football club is it’s supporters. Clubs up and down the country, ours included will do well to remember this, and the amount of money raised by David Clough is quite simply astonishing. I had the pleasure of meeting Cloughie a few times at various Goldbond events and as a club, we are indebted to him and his efforts and it will be great to see him taking his seat again at Spotland.

Much loved, much missed and very much appreciated.
