Last 300 Tickets Left For Leeds United Clash At St Mary's Friday, 29th Sep 2023 18:03 Despite four defeats on the trot for Southampton, it's going to be another full house at St Mary's on Saturday when Leeds United are the visitors, with only a few hundred tickets left for the game. It's been a busy time in the St Mary's ticket office of late, although there have been empty seats in the corporate areas and also in the away section of the ground, its been busy in the home seating areas for general admission, with healthy attendances. After 30,113 turning out for the visit of Norwich City, it was followed up by 30,401 in attendance for the Queens Park Rangers victory, there was an expected lull for the visits of both Leicester & Ipswich Town being that both games were evening fixtures and due to the result at Sunderland before this game. But 28,877 for the visit of the Foxes was a healthy attendance, as was 27,265 for Ipswich given that it was on a school night and both sides didn't sell out their allocation for the game, although they did bring good support for an evening fixture. Now with a day to go before the visit of Leeds United it looks like being another 30k plus attendance at St Mary's, the usual look at the online ticketing system shows only around 300 tickets left, most in the Chapel End of the ground. These could well sell out before kick off even though it is a lunch time televised game. Despite the set backs this season it shows the loyalty of the Saints supporters and after this fixture the average attendance for the first 5 games will be somewhere near the 29,411 mark. The last time Saints were in the Championship back in 2011/12 we were on the crest of a wave after promotion from League One, yet our opening fixture that season, ironically against Leeds saw only 25,860 present, indeed even after the big crowds in the promotion run in the average attendance for that season was only 26,240. There will be some lower crowds that tomorrow's game against Leeds this season, but we have started with the Southampton supporters showing that they are backing the team, it now needs the team itself to show that it can win games and mount a promotion challenge.
