Dale’s final league game of the regular season at Braintree Town on Monday will be refereed by ROBERT MASSEY-ELLIS.

This is the Coventry-based official’s second Dale match in the space of seven weeks after he took charge of our 3-2 home defeat to Boston United in mid-March.

The husband (and Ellis part) of Premier League assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis, Robert has refereed in the National League since early in the 2020/21 season.

Aged just over 40, he is an Executive Director of a Medical Centre and while his wife was travelling the world officiating in all the top women’s tournaments, Robert has been engaged in all sorts of worthy activities, including Operations Manager for the RSPCA, Management in the British Red Cross and Medical Manager for the British Army.

This season has seen Mr Massey-Ellis referee 16 games in the National League, one of which was Braintree’s 3-1 home defeat to Maidenhead in November.

He has also overseen three fixtures in League Two and all told, his 19 appointments have yielded 65 yellow cards and four red cards.
