Adkins First Job Monday, 13th Sep 2010 21:16
Nigel Adkins has to do one thing when he walks into the dressing room.
Whe Nigel Adkins introduces himself to the Saints squad he will have to concentrate on the most important factor in our three game losing streak since the departure of Alan Pardew and that is restoring team spirit.
The axing of Pardew clearly destroyed the morale in the camp and its now Adkins task to build up the players spirits and restore their confidence, Scunthorpe fans have spoken about how this was one of his strengths at Glanford Park, he had the ability to create a good dressing room camarderie and very few players were unhappy at the club.
Of course its now a completely different ballgame for our new manager, the type of player he will have to win over to his style and earn their respect is different from those he is used to dealing with in the past, he will of course state that a player is a player, but the reality is that in todays modern game that is not quite true and the difficulty is that if members of our squad are not happy they will be in demand to move elsewhere, so he quickly has to show them that he can work quickly to turn the side back to winning ways.

the one thing he needs to do is drop davis as he is a liability, bring bart back as he commands his area, midfield needs to create chances for the strikers,as david villa would struggle to score for us at the moment.Nigel will get this team of under achievers into gear and get us promoted,as we are giving everyone a -10 headstart with the crap we are currently playing.

Bart is indeed a very good keeper and does distribute the ball better than KD. Ryan Dickson needs to play in front of Dan Harding as he can get good crosses in BUT we need players taking the gamble and getting into the box to be on the end of these crosses. We also need some good through balls for Puncheon and Ricky, and even Oxo, to get onto in the box. More strikes on target. One thing I've noticed is the lack of free kicks around opposition box - we're not getting at 'em!

I agree the first thing that Nigel Adkins has to do is to drop Kelvin Davis. He just has to look at Bart's average goals conceded per game whenever he has had a chance. It is well below Kelvins and if converted into a season would be almost 12. Where Dave Merrington gets his statement that Kelvin is worth 10 goals a season from is beyond me. Perhaps he has got it the wrong way round ?

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Rochdale Polls |
