I'd take the Caulker back that played for us, but not the Caulker that played for cardiff last season

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?

Bartley and Amat over Caulker? Really???

If Caulker is available for anything less than 7m then it's a no brainer for me

I've seen Bartley have one good game against Everton before he went off injured.
I'm not saying he might not be something in the future but I'm not getting the raving over him.

Caulker went off to play for Cardiff so he'll always be shit to most now.

We'd be signing our future captain too.

My point was more to do with the likely cost of bringing Caulker in - we're unlikely to see much change out of £7m plus probably around £30k per week. Assuming we keep Ash and get probably no more than £3-4m for Chico, I just think that, with Amat and Bartley already here, that money could be better spent elsewhere. Nothing to do with Caulker playing for Cardiff other than the impact that could have on his transfer fee.

I'd imagine there are plenty here on 30k a week.

Chico probably isn't far off

I'd have him but they won't let him go cheap to us ,he still has room for improvement and he will with age and experience just got to keep him out of casinos

Aye always used to see him in the casino. Him, Sinclair and graham used to throw money like it's going out of fashion

If Ash and Chico both go then I think we need two experienced signings. Caulker could be one, but I think he needs a senior buddy. I don't fancy Bartley at this stage in his development, and also worry about Amat's morale and bottle if we hit a losing streak. Central defence is critical and there is so much riding on getting this right.

Innit, Not saying he doesn't have the potential to be good enough, but people are basing it on about 30 mins of football. I rate both Amat and Bartley shows promice, but anyone who doesn't think we need a centre back if we lose Ash or Chico is nuts.

What question too few people ask - will Swansea allow that both first team central defenders to go at the same time.

No, Swansea will not.

Not sure how likely this would be, but if we lose either Ash or Chico, I'd quite happily offer Vorm and a few million to Liverpool for Agger. Sakho and Skrtel are keeping him out, but he'd probably play some Euro games for them. Depends how much Rodgers wants competition for Mignolet I guess.

He would have to agree to one hell of a pay cut.
And is he as good as chico ? Or Bartley ?

Yes he is better than chico and not liability material, monk could teach him a few things and ash would be a bit happier with him alongside

Caulker's better now than Monk was in his dreams.

What's he going to teach him - how to lose your man at set pieces?

Oh God that's a new one Philip.

It's a step up from Monk won't attract any players anyway.

I seem to remember saying I was worried about player retention and acquisition - not quite the same thing... The PL and its money will attract plenty of players, not necessarily a Michu for £2m though.

Yes we seem to have moved on from "Monk will be a rubbish manager" to "Monk was a rubbish player" now.

We only got going in the PL when Caulker got arrested/injured and Monk came back in to the side. We were up and running and ticking over nicely when Caulker finally found his feet.

Seriously though the best performance IMO in the PL was away to Fulham under Rodgers.
Williams hadn't missed a game in like 20 years and the news filtered through that he was sick and Monk was starting,a group of boys sitting in the stand were heard to say before the game had even kicked off "we might as well go now if Monk is starting. TW*TS

Great player for us over the years and the greatest captain in our history.

There will be a Garry Monk statue outside the ground at some point, and rightly so.

I was also at the Chelsea away game in our first season when Caulker was injured,Monk got destroyed during the game and we only lost 4-1 because he was playing.

He looked terrible at Cardiff alongside whoever he was playing with. If he had never played for us before and hadn't had that one excellent season here, we'd be laughing at the thought of paying £7m for him.

I really think Ash carried him that season. It was all but proven this season when he played the 'Ash' role (leading defender, captain) and crumbled. I'd be happy to see him here for a low fee as I'm sure he will mature and get better, but he is not capable of slotting in alongside Chico or Amat and creating an excellent last line of defence. He needs a leader beside him.

To be fair Dwight, you could have had Cannavaro in his prime and he would have struggled playing next to the donkey's that are Hudson and Turner. Milk turns quicker than those two

Add to that the single most brain dead full back in Fabio and that's a more toxic mix than Chernobyl
