After reading and posting in that misogynist nightmare of a thread, I'd rather we just don't talk about him. As you said, it's depressing.

They just said on Radio 5 that the review of his case is likely to take about 35 weeks. That's how we roll in the public sector see.

What's to say he's any better than conference standard and why take a risk and get all that flack for a player who may be of little use...

because clubs are so lazy and can't be bothered to scout talent in the conference, scottish lower leagues and the rest, they see the guy in the news and think "aye, he'll do" We picked Rangel from the spanish third division for 50 grand for christ sake.

So you are one of those who believe a sentence is not just for the err sentence, but for life. How very liberal of you.

Thing is he clearly feels no remorse and believes he is innocent. It undermines the whole British legal system and he cannot occupy a role that is so public with that attitude as it makes a mockery of the victim and rape victims as a whole.

He might have had a better chance when he came out if he'd started by apologising for the events on the night.

Could he resume his career if he were a teacher or a doctor? No. Why on earth should he be allowed to continue his very privileged, handsomely paid, somewhat influential career? Because he's been to prison?

I think you'll find that many people in a variety of occupations would not be able to return to their previous employment if they committed an offence as serious as rape.

I don't want to reopen old wounds but my position is this: First of all I don't believe the case was proved beyond reasonable doubt and think there is a relatively high probability the conviction will now be overturned. Secondly, even accepting the premise of events that convicted Evans, this is a relatively mild case of rape on the spectrum for example without any suggestion of violence whatsoever. Arguing that all instances of rape are equally serious is like saying stealing an apple from the greengrocers is the same as the Brink's-Matt Security heist. Finally saying that because he couldn't work if he were employed in certain other professions is totally irrelevant, m'lud.

Yes, but the conviction hasn't been overturned, and there is no such thing as a mild case of rape. Your Honour.

The case was proved beyond all reasonable doubt. Jurors decided who listened to the case in its entirety decided the Crown proved its case. If I was found guilty of rape I certainly wouldn't be able to continue in my profession anymore. My professional body would disqualify me. Footballers however, aren't 'qualified' formally to do what they do so as long as he's backed by the PFA, I think it's he will eventually play again. He still believes he's innocent so I don't blame him for not apologising. If he did that would certainly sink the review he has going on
