The days of music and bands coming from the working class and actually having something to say or make music with a bit of dirt under the finger nails has long gone.
Cold play are typical of middle class well to do families being able to fund young jonnies dream of being a musician and "making it"
For me they have nothing to say, at times they seem as manufactured as West life .
Nothing like aesthetics to get in the way of 'not getting it'. They might not be your cuppa but 'don't get it'. I honestly haven't heard a lot, but from what I hear they really feel the early-depeche mode/radio head vibe of using synthetics over a traditional 3/4 mixed with well done hooks.
I can see why they are popular, even if it isn't my slice.
A bit like Muse, a bunch of privileged white boys who, with the means available to them and inspired by decent musicians before them, knocked out a few pretty tracks early doors, but soon fell into being nouveau riche banal session musicians with nothing to say, writing music for other aspirational nouveau riche bell-ends who lap it up as they wouldn't know rock music if it shat on them.

Ever since my son was... never conceived, because I've never had consensual sex without money involved... I've always kind of looked at you as... a thing, that I could live next to... in accordance with state laws.
I like a bit of Coldplay. And Muse. It's alright. I get that there's a plausible argument that at the very least the two frontmen are a bit up themselves but they still do nice tunes.
Stereophonics are a group I can't listen to. Again, good tunes, like, but that lad's awful grating voice just boils my wee.
